Default Californians with tune!

Did the local gas station detect your tune? Or did you pass, no problem. I gotta know by the 30th. I’ve heard all sorts of horror stories of what could happen, but no actual tales.

You need to get a oem factory tune, any updates by gm are approved. If you modified anything in the ecu, the checksum formula that calculates cal id and cvn will change values. When they hook up to Sacramento for smog it will fail instantly and refer you to the BAR state referee for a very detailed inspection to move forward.

2008 manufacturers were required to report the cal id and cvn used in all cars sold. I've heard pre 08 cars not having problems yet with modified tunes, but I believe they're putting together the database and flagging anyone with a unique calibration later. Some were using smog simulators to fake tests remotely so they recently added a webcam to view the vehicle getting tested and they are wise to the smog simulators (constant 12.0v or steady coolant Temps not changing etc)

But to the OPs point, do you know this to be fact, or just how its 'supposed to work'?

We sell 50 state legal tunes for all 99-17 Corvettes currently. At no point have we been asked to change anything that would indicate to a tester that these tunes have an EO#. I also know many of our customers have been through testing, with our tune loaded, and not had any issue.
I cant speak to tunes loaded with a different platform though.

I dont believe they are using CVNs here, but its possible. We don't affect CVNs either way

I chickened out. A failed ecu tune gets you an appointment with a smog referee. I’m having my tuner return my car to stock Saturday. I hope it doesn’t affect my $400 shock retune.
