Default OBD Codes

Im a New Member to the site and a new owner of a 2010 GS convertible. 6300km (Canadian)3900 miles.
Recently the CEL appeared. I was wondering if there is a method to pull the codes without a scanner.

Frustrating as ive had the car a week. Drove it from Edmonton to Toronto and no issues. And then this appeared after i had the Safety done and emissions checked.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Most good auto parts stores will read codes for you for nothing and if not, plain code readers are very cheap. No way to read codes from the car without one.

P0172 and P0175 I believe ( I know the OP ) Rich, bank 1 and 2

Co-incident to the codes and the CEL coming on, the OP had:

1) an ECM reflash done at GM to enable the Ontario required Day time Running Lights few days prior
2) Ontario Drive Clean Emissions test (it passed) a few days prior - dont know if they unplug any sensors for that ?
3) a loose battery cable (the day before the CEL) and lost electrical power to the car. After fixing the loose cable, car was restarted briefly and shut off. Shortly after this the CEL appeared.

Codes were cleared and diagnostic run by local Tech, all was well for a day

I understand the CEL Came back on today at first start up (not sure of the codes yet but good chance they are the same ones)

Do the experts here beleive that there could be any possible link to the Battery disconnect/reconnect issue ? if the CEL is back with the same codes what shold be done to recify it ? does the car need to 'Re learn"

Thanks DaveT. I have the car booked in at GM monday morning. The TOPTAK code reader wont read the OBD, just keep getting error codes, tried to get into GM to day to get codes read but thats not going to happen til later if at all.
Frustrating.
The dealership who flashed DRL and saftied the car are already back pedalling.
Typical F'n dealers, quick to sell , terrible with service.

I communicated with the OP offline yesterday. No resolution to the issue, same codes P0172 and P0175

GM Dealer was unable to determine root cause.

they apparently tested the MAF Sensor - but what they actually tested /looked at is unclear.

Fuel Ratio was identified as 1:1 instead of 14.7 :1 itssupposed to be

Car is still running fine, fuel consumption/mileage is still good.

Im my view, the issue is more likely an inaccurate reading from the MAF, its either Dirty, Oily or the Hydrocarbon Pad has come loose.

Car is booked in at an other shop for Monday, but please float some ideas to the OP on what else should be looked at here....

All, the Hydro Carbon Pad in the plenum had come off and was covering the MAF. Problem solved

Yes the pad had fallen down was touching the MAF. GM said they had checked all that. Liars!
Also. Mechanic called around for new one. $500 Cdn. Only one left in Canada and dealer wouldn't it. It's not just the pad but the entire housing that gets replaced.

Word of caution the mechanic who fixed mine said on his forum several vettes engines had actually ingested the carbon pad has completely let go.
I'm No mechanic but that can't be good for an engine.
