Default 2007 c6 ls2 stock vs headers dyno

The car is bone stock except stainless works headers 1 3/4" longitubes with 3" from collectors, 3" x pipe, and 2.5" SLP proflow axle back. no cat. stock intake and filter. no other mods.

very safe tune, 0 knock all the way. torque management table still untouched, timing untouched.

self tune. rented dyno from DRT performance. Ralf was very helpful (he knows his stuff). experimented with some ideas, just wanted to see what car can make with good fueling changes only.

first run was untuned exhaust, the dip was created by the traction control (forgot to turn it off)

Really nice. It's basically a stock LS3 now with just those minor mods.

really? thats good i guess. these cars are a dream to tune and work on. they respond very well to mods and tuning. the ecu perimeters are awesome and are very fine. i am use to tuning evos/sti/ rx7s (over 10 years of tuning exp.). i had a blast with the hp tuner. took me 2-3 days of reading to convert the tables to what im use to. i just finished tuning the torque management and VE tables (blue cat). the top graph is before VE tune. now the car feels so different (after tuning ve) and so responsive almost night and day difference. i didn't use any special methods, just trial and error on base knock settings. fine tuning on the street for 2 weeks now for perfection. i drove a friend's ls3 (tuned by one of the famous vendor on this forum) that has CAI , full headers, uncated x and borla stingers and mine pulls on him and feels alot more responsive. i guess i had more time with it (3 weeks).

i would like to thank HP tuners for that Freaking histogram ishh! makes it soooooooooooooo easy!

one question. on 4th gear at 6 k rpms , what mph should i be hitting? it hit 140mph every time. is that normal?

At 1000 rpms for me, I see 23 on the HUD, so math says 6k would be 138. Give or take the error in eyeballing the tach .vs speedo, i'd say 140mph @ 6k sound just about right.

The reason I asked is this was measured on the dyno and tach. But I thought the z51 had different gear ratio

The 4th gear ratio is the same as the base car transmission.

so the rear axle 3.42 ratio of a z51 makes no difference on 4th gear compared to a base model?

In a manual transmission car...no. They are all 3.42's. 4th gear is 1 to 1 ratio in the manual transmissions. Z51 gets diferrent transmission gears in 1st-3rd and 5th and 6th.

That's great for headers/no cats/axleback only ls2. Have you tracked your car before or after the header install?

I have a base 06 6spd auto trans w 87k miles and baselined upper 330's with vararam only. Then with ported tb, obx longtubes, catted x, ported fast 102 I only dyno'd 378rwhp. It went from 12.91@111-112 stock to 11.90's@118mph in 1000+DA.

I'm doing heads/cam in early July, knowing my car it will probably dyno 405 rwhp after H/C and run 11.70's at 120.

so..did you actually have a tune on the dyno after the header and fast install? if so, what was your afr avg?

did u dyno tune? what kinda dyno? did ur tuner use wideband to tune? post ur log of the wot. i hit 388 with only fuel changes , no ve no timing no torque management no knock adjustments no alcohol mix tables or even fan control. but since my dyno i have adjusted everything so now it should be at a higher hp. but dyno # are just a reference #. u have added 50 hp on ur base. thats not bad. my base (with only exhaust install , no tune) was 360. so with stock exhaust i might have been around 340. and i have no cat, and it is a manual with 3" collectors and x pipe. i never tracked it. its my weekend cruiser.

yes sir, dynojet sheets provided.
My best baseline with vram and a 160 tstat was actually 342rwhp, 349 rwtq in 70 deg weather.

yes sir. Dynojet. Yes sir. I can post the dyno sheet if it helps.

longtubes/catted x/stock axleback/vram

above with added vmax ported tb and mbrp axleback(dual bullet exhaust)

Car has a circle d 3000 stall, 25% underdrive pulley and a corsa sport exhaust installed after the last dyno. Advanced induction 232cc ported 243 heads and spinmonster cam going in in early july.

do u have any log files? that seems a little lean for my taste. not all cars are the same u need to make it richer and then leaner to test what it likes.

jeff i dont know what to tell you. i would never ever tune the way ur tuner did. im my opinion (tuning cars since i was 17) there are several things i would not have done.
1) tune without a wideband (no professional tuner should be without a kit)
2) ur tuner picked up knock at those rpms and afr so instead of taking his time and doing careful fuel and spark manipulation (and VE which takes time), he manipulated the knock sensitivity tables.
3) are you burning rubber or losing traction ? would this affect ur tracking time? he just maxed out all your torque limits per gear tables so u get max torque ur car is producing at that gear with out control. i would street tune to see what ur tires can hold at different gears on wot and set the limits accordingly.
4) second log indicates a 88% tps was held for 2700-3500 rpms and the rest to red line was in the upper 60%. that is not how you do a WOT run
5) if you don't use the method in step 2 to eliminate knock, you would have to use use fuel and timing to do so. this requires time.

if you are unsatisfied with ur tune and have hp tuner i will help u tune it ur self (but u must install a wideband afr.
guys with more experience please chime in and correct anything i am saying please.
i have tuned many cars, highly modified to all stock and i try not to touch the knock tables as much as possible. and if i do it is always using knock voltage logs (for noisy motors).

ps. that intake , throttle body and exhaust is doing its job though. ur cylinder air mass is healthy.

Thanks for assessing my tunes shinzon! I just ordered an NGK afx powerdex wideband o2 kit. It's about time I start learning about EFI tuning. Now I have to pick up some tuning books or dvd's to start the education part.
