Default COW tune or go local

I spoke with chuck today and have nothing but great things to say about our conversation. And within 5 minutes of that conversation a local guy called me back and said he can do it too. I'm pretty sure I'd feel more comfortable with the COW tune but also like the idea of having a guy local. Can i get some input on your guys recommendation. Also the local guy does NOT specialize on strictly corvette.

Tough one. Having a local guy would be awesome. I know, 'cause I can't find any local Vette shops around me. It's all imports or old hot rodder-type stuff. And you'd think being so close to Bowling Green, there'd be a couple Vette shops around...

Then again though...you said he's not a Vette guy. Is he at least a Chevy guy? LS motors have been in the Chevy lineup since the mid-90's, so if he's at least worked on some Camaros or GTO's, he'd at least have a grasp.
How long has he been open? Talked to any of his customers? What does his facilities look like and what kind of equipment does he have? A tuner, some hand tools and a dyno, does not a speed shop make.

From my short time as a Corvette owner and extensive research so far, there are a handful of names/dealers/manufacturers/tuners/etc that pop up more often than others.
While I've only spoken to Chuck a couple times via PM/email. My regular schedule is pretty tight on being able to conduct business during actual business hours, so I haven't been able to call. But CoW is definitely one of those names that pops up among vette circles, no matter where you are. And always in a positive manner.

I'd definitely talk to the local guy and see if I could find some of his customers to talk to as well. Maybe try him out on something small. If you're gonna do something really major, then yeah I'd probably want to stick to one guy/shop. But taking the car to NY might not be practical for headers or cam and a tune.
Maybe the local guy can do the grunt work and Chuck can do the tune?

I'll be in town from the 19th to the 22nd. We'll be using a dynojet dyno.

There are some very good under the radar tuners. Also there are the other kind both above & below the radar.

I would suspect that COW has dealt with your situation head on. I'm sure if you explain what you are thinking Chuck will give you a few very specific questions you can ask your local tuner. The answers may help you with your decision.
