Default Should I buy a 2008 mod???

Hey all,
My first time here. Previous 2000 c5 owner (loved it of course) bone stock. Now I am looking at a 2008 c6 that is modified by MTI out of Houston (or what was MTI out of Houston as they are now gone).
I am not going to race this car but I do drive moderately, aggressively. Not a heavy red-liner. Can someone give me some advise, input, thoughts etc....maybe some peace-of-mind....or not...I like the car...seems to be done right but I don't really know. Thanks in advance.
Specs on the mods:
Z06 widebody rear quarters and Z06 wheels and tires, Bilstein shocks and Borla swaybars (this is better than Z51!), Ram Corvette street dual clutch with flywheel, Callaway C6 Cold Air Induction with K&N Filter, MTI Thresher 550 package which includes: MTI Stage IIE L92 Hand Ported Cylinder Heads, Assembled with Double Valve Springs, Titanium Retainers and Hardened Spring Seats, GM Head Gaskets, ARP Head Bolts, MTI Thresher LS3 Camshaft, MTI Hardened Chromemoly Pushrods, MTI Ported LS3 Intake Manifold, Borla LG Pro Longtube headers with Catted X-pipe, B&B Bullet Exhaust, NGK TR55 Spark Plugs, Hypertech 160* Thermostat, MTI Custom PCM Dyno Tuning. It also has: Kenwood touch screen stereo/navigation (powered by garmin and better than stock nav), JBL speaker system and subwoofer

If the price is right and the seller will give you some kind of warranty on the car then go for it. You'll need some kind of warranty as the factory GM 3/36 warranty is probably "void" due to all the mod work. Good luck and welcome to the Forum.

Thanks for the thoughts. I am buying from a private party so likely an 'as-is' deal. Any other suggestions? Things to look for or watch out for?
thanks again. its an investment in life man so I want to get it right!

You're probably right, "as is" from a private seller is all you'll get. If you have a good mechanic it's probably worth an hour of his/her time to have the car looked at. Get it up on a lift if possible. You'll see underside damage if there is any and leaks are easier to see. Beware if the owner doesn't want your mechanic looking the car over.
Some on this Forum just toss cash into an envelope from time-to-time and become their own insurance/warranty company in case something goes wrong. Good luck to you.

Great input gents!
I will definitely have it checked out locally.
So, do you really need to have the springs replaced every 15k-25k miles on a car like this? How much does something like that typically run?
thanks dudes!
Happy drivin

your 36mo/36k warranty is still good, your powertrain warranty is a no joy. So if your window motor breaks, it'll be warrantied...if your synchros goes bad, you are SOL...so there's a difference.

Springs? are you talking about Valve springs? nah, not on a hydro roller cam. Even you did have to, they should cost you 150 bucks a set or less, and it takes about 2h to do them or less (depending if it's your first time or not)

Everyone wonders if the used car they're considering was abused. Safe to say yours was...

NOT NECESSARILY. I have modded three cars ( bolt on only with heavy suspension work ). and none of them were ever abused. Never even lay rubber. Talked with the seller and get a feel for his temperament, this will tell you a lot. If priced right and your into the changes it can be a great deal.

I agree with the above to a certain degree, but with all of those engine upgrades, you can bet that he laid rubber at the VERY least. One does not throw all that $, and you can bet that he spent some serious cabbage on those mods, and not try to see what they can do.

These cars are meant to be driven, and driven hard. Throw in a bunch of HP mods, not just bolt on stuff, and you can bet that he red-lined the car quite a few times.

I would go with the previous posters suggestion and take the car to a reputable "corvette" shop. Have them give it the once over, and make an educated decision on that.

Know that once a car is modded, you will have to spend $ on up keep, and replacement parts eventually. It's just part of the game...

I think it was Ed Taylor here on the forums that said it best: "If your gonna play, your gonna pay" or something to that effect anyway...

Which is to say that if you are on a budget, and don't have a bit of expendable cash, don't mod your car, or buy one that has been...

Good luck, and I hope it works out for you!

Keith

BTW, I bet it's a kick in the pants to drive.....

Hey thanks guys. I just bought the 'vette. I decided to go for it based on your input, several discussion with MTI guys, owner and of course the complete inspection (about 3 hours worth). Seems to be a top-to-bottom great vehicle. The compression was perfect and they said that the mods were done as best as they have seen. Dyno'd at 480whp which is not bad. I am going to update my profile. the car comes tomorrow!
can't wait.

Hey DesertDawg.
Got pics lined up in the photo album. Curious, can you actually see them? Also, can you tell me how to put my car's pic up so that all of the replies to and creation of treads have my cars pic on it....I just can't seem to figure it out.

when do you peeps cruise? Would love to join you all!

Jason,
I see your pictures, and thats a great looking ride dude!!!

If you right click on the picture then click on properties you will see a window with the url location. It will look like this...
[url]http://forums.corvetteforum.com/members/azcentral-albums-nasty-girl-picture38885-jasonk-3.jpg[rl]

right click and copy that address. then when you add a reply look above the box you type in for the "insert image" link, it looks like this...

When you click that you get a pop up box where you can paste the address you copied, then hit enter and it will add it to your post like this...

See if that helps.
Also just click the Az flag/logo in my post above and it will take you to our local club. Hope to see you there!
