Default DOH! Hp Tuners issues

So I finally manned up and decided to plug in my lap top with HP tuners to the car.

All that happened is that a window popped up saying that the connection failed, the car died, and the column lock thing popped up. I restarted the car, tried to read the tune again, and the same thing happened.....

What am I doing wrong?

Have you posted over on the HP Tuners forum? That would be my first stop. I can't answer the "car died" part but I do know if you try and run the data log feature while the DTC read window is open HP Tuners will drop the connection. Are you running both the Scanner and the Editor at the same time by chance?

Nope, just opened the editor, and clicked on read entire, or something like that.

Is there a sequence to go by, like start the car, then plug in the computer, then start the lap top, etc. that is not included in the instruction manual that doesn't come with HP tuners?

Do not read entire with the engine running. Put it in Auxilary mode, and they try to read the stock tune.

As mentioned above to either read or write the file the car must not be running!

the car should NOT be running when you are doing anything with HP tuners.. like amric said.. put it in aux and you should be good to go.

Unless you are running the "Scanner" application in the HP Tuners suite...pretty sure you want the car running for that one.

hold the bottom of the start button down for 10 seconds until your greeting comes up. (this is NOT accessory mode, this is about 5 seconds PAST accessory mode)

After you do this you can do a read or flash.

it is not very smart to try to do anything on these cars without knowing what to do!!!
1 plug cable to laptop and car
2 open Editor
3 starter button to acc mode
4 laptop read entire and SAVE, name it!!
when done stater to OFF
look over Editor to check what you might want to change, provided you know what needs to be changed.
for Scan
1 cable hooked to laptop
2 Acc on
3 Scan mode, open gauges and start scanning,
4 start car double click space bar, it will start scanning.
Good luck!!!

How long do you hold down the bottom of the button to get accesory mode where HP can connect? I seem to allways have a terrible time connecting.

Being in accessory mode isn't going to do it You need to be in run but not crank/start mode which is the "hold the bottom of the button down for the 10 seconds or so" procedure.

Strange, because I run a new tune every day, and the 100+ times I have done it with just Acc mode. No 10 sec hold.

I have never held the button down, I put it in Acc mode and copy or download, no problems at all!!
