Default Can GM spot a Tune via On-Star

I am a week away from buying a hand held tuner. I was reading the instructions and they warn to remove on-star fuse while doing tune so no on-star signal would mess up the tune. This got me to wondering if with all the diognostics that on-star does would GM be able to spot a tune. If so I sure don't mind keeping the on-star fuse out. Thanks for any insight.

If I remember correctly it is so onstar does not power up and mess up the tune. Aparently it can work when the key is off and do its thing. I don't believe there can be any tune info sent through the system.

Why not just cancel the OnStar if you're worried?

Good point guys. I was trying to find out if there is tuning inforation available to GM via OnStar - if there is I would disable and cancel, if not I would keep active. Since the case is we don't know I will cancel. Thanks

On some programmers, On-Star can (not will) interrupt the communications routines during programming and possibly brick the ECM/PCM. Thus the need to remove fuses so that doesn't happen. This won't happen on the C6 though AFAIK.

Didn't you know that GM just purchased 6 covert helicopters equipped with "Tune Detectors". Now the just have to fly over your car and they can tell whether or not it has aftermarket programming!

Maximum All Up Weight: 2,910kg with internal load (6,415 lb)
Engines: Pratt and Whitney PW206B2 twin turbine engine - 457kw (612 shp)
Overall Length: 12.16 m (39.9 ft)
Overall Height: 3.35 m (11 ft)
Rotor Diameter: 10.2 m (33,5 ft)
Fuel Capacity: 560.4 kg (1235.4 lb)
Maximum Speed: 259 kph (140 kts)
Maximum Range (standard fuel tank): 635 km (342 nm)
Maximum Endurance: 3.35 hrs
Maximum Operating Altitude: 10,000 ft.

Microwave Downlink

The new downlink system is digital, allowing PCM Data and information to be transmitted to and from the aircraft and a suspect vehicle securely. The aircraft is equipped with two transmitters for improved reliability, and has a range of over 30 miles.

Star Saphire High Definition Video Thermal Camera

High resolution cameras will give clearer images from further away, allowing operatives to identify a suspect vehicle.

High - definition capacity increases the amount and quality of video evidence that can be obtained to support cancellation of the warranty.

Skyquest integrated navigation system

The system is linked to the thermal imaging and video camera allowing for 'geo pointing' - the camera to be directed automatically to any given location. In addition the 'Tracker' stolen vehicle locating system is linked into the system giving accurate directions to the crew.

;-)

Vettinplano,

I accept I may be paranoid - but that does not mean I am not followed. I did notice on the monthly vehicle diagnostics report from On-Star that milage, oil percentage and other service factors are reported. I just tried, but so far failed, to find out if any of the factors changed by a predator tune are also captured.

Thanks,
Chuck

PS: The helicopter bit was very funny. I recommend a Global Hawk variant for the loiter time.

In my opinion if you are really that worried about your warranty my advice would be leave the stock tune alone.

On another note I would advise you really should read up on the hand held tuners before plunking down your money. The general consensus seems to be that they are worth very little in perfromance increase for the Corvette. If you really want a tune go to a well known, proven performance tuner. I know you didn't ask that but I wanted to throw it out there anyway. Good luck.

Hey Chuck,

You should call one of the guys at LG or 21st century in the DFW area. ( there are several other excellent shops that regularly post that are in the DFW area too.)

They should be able to answer any question you have.

Tune away. On Star cannot tell, and there are no complications. I've been doing it for years.
