Default do i need a lap top for hp tuner pro?

this is probably a stupid question, i ordered a hp tuners pro (haven't got it yet) i was under the impression with the pro version you don't need a laptop because of the mpvi interface, am i right? or do i need to be shopping for a laptop? or can i get by on just my desktop?

A laptop would be recommended but not an absolute necessity since the Pro version allows standalone data logging. If you're just looking to log your runs then your desktop will work since you can download the scan files but you'll need a laptop at least once to write a tune to your car.

Your desktop will need to be close (very close) to your Vette if you hope to read and modify your current calibration. My recommendation...get a laptop. There are a ton of sub $500.00 laptops out there that will work just fine.

Laptop is a requirement. You can not set up the scanner without it. Even for logging without a laptop.

Unless I’m missing something then what you just said isn’t correct.

Although it would be a pain to drag your desktop out to the car for the initial setup and configuration, it is very doable and after that you could just simply record your scans and download them later.

Yes it would be much more difficult to drag out a desktop to set things up, and yes that can be done.

However, to do any tuning you must have a laptop/desktop present to upload/download the tune or to use any of the VCM controls in the scanner or to set up custom PIDS. Most will opt for a laptop since belting in a desktop and running a stout inverter in the car would be a pain...

Oh, I agree with you completely and would never consider not using my laptop but in a pinch you could at least get some functionality out of it.

I use both. I use a laptop when necessary and I also went to Tech Advance and bought a 70' USB cable. You can go to 90' with no signal degradation. I have a big screen monitor and prefer to use it if I am doing a lot of adjustments. It's a little more pain to walk out to the car to turn on or off but hey I need the exercise anyway.

With the USB all I run from the computer is the USB cable to the dongle then plug the dongle into the OBD port, pretty simple. I think I paid about 30 bucks for the cable.
