Default Hand held re-programmer or shop tune?

I am getting ready to upgrade my exhaust on my C6. I have used hand held re-programmers on other vehicles in the past with good results. I have heard from a few people that after the exhaust mod I should have it taken to the shop for a dyno/tune. Do you get better results from a shop tune compared to a hand-held?

I will have to have the car transported about 200 miles for the nearest dyno equipped shop. Thats gonna cost about $500 for the transport/tune. The hand-held units look like around $300-$400. I know with the hand helds you can cyhper the dtc's, change fan settings, rev limiter etc. But will I see more performance gains from a shop tune?

I personally use a hand held,[predator], I like it for my purposes. A professional dyno/street tune however is a more thorough process and could possibly yield better results. Either method is an improvement over stock.

no need for a dyno tune just for an exhaust-mod, man...

a programmer will suit you just fine... as long as it allows you to adjust your fueling like the diablosport predator does...

get your fuel trims dialed in, and you're good to go...

can more power be had from a dyno tune compared to a handheld programmer?? - absolutely...

but is it NECESSARY?? no...

a handheld programmer like the Predator will gain you 20-25hp/tq... and even a little more once you get your fueling adjusted correctly with it...

I already changed my intake, so when I swap out the exhaust I can adjust my fuel/air ratios with the predator and save the $ I would have spent on a Dyno? and have satisfactory results?

For an intake and exhaust a handheld isn't even worth it buddy. Just slap it on and enjoy the car. When you get around to long tubes then spring for the dyno tune.

In my opinion , yes on satisfactory results. There is enough range of adjustment for A/F ratios with the predator for your mods. A cam or F/I might however require a more comprehensive approach. There is no end to opinions on this , simply put , the predator is a step up from stock. A dyno / street tune is more thorough than the predator. A bazooka is more powerful than a shot gun, but I still love my shotgun.

for your mods a hand held should be ok. you can adjust with it for just headers.

Thanks for the info, I am thinking I will go with the predator for the intake and exhaust. If I ever do the headers/cam etc, then I will spring for the dyno. Its tough living in this jacked up state (Peoples republic of California). If I go with headers I might get jammed at the smog station. Oh well, when I retire I am out of here.
