Default Auto TCC settings

Does it make sense to have the Auto TCC Apply settings below the stall speed of the torque converter? I thought that below the stall speed the converter still has a fairly high (>15%) slip ratio. If so, is it safe to engage the TCC at these slip levels?

What is the upside and down side of enabling the Shift Lock so the TCC stays engaged during shifts?

Why allow the Auto TCC to apply in any gears but 5th or 6th? Seems like the objective is to improve fuel economy (i.e. No slip) so who cares about the lower gears?

Unless of course the use of the TCC can improve the performance under acceleration (>50% Throttle Position).

All comments welcome!!

Hi Dan,

The TCC can improve your performance only if you have to the power to push through the converter, even the stock cars don't have the power to push trough the converter, only reason gm locks the converter from 2nd gear is because of fuel economy. I would set your tune up so it only locks under the cruise phase to keep the fuel economy, around 31% throttle up set it so it unlocks. With the converter unlocked it slips, but u get a torque multiplication because of this and faster throttle response. When u get around 500 hp you can start locking the converter to gain so hp and tq.

With a stock or small aftermarket converter, you can just leave it unlocked. If you put in a big stall (e.g. 3600 or higher), the amount of slip may make you want to use lock-up in 4th and possibly 3rd, just because it can get tiring around town.

Ian's 31% for unlock was right around what I used when I had big stalls.
