For anyone who are interested in buying this unit or any other unit used, must understand that a prior vin# is not required to disengage the anti-theft system, the steps are simple, first install unit, unit will usually play immediately but after the power is shut off the first time after installation the unit will go into anti-theft mode (if it was not disengage before selling or removing from prior vehicle) a scanner like an autel, Modis, snap on or tech11 can remove the anti-theft system, as soon as the anti-theft system is removed the unit will then work fine and will be able to install in any car after that without an anti-theft issue. NB, the navigation from an 2008 car can work on any C6 Corvette, I also believe from 08 and up the corvettes or could be the late 07 came with steering wheel controls, I believe the older models didn't have the steering wheel controls but it can still work on the older models without the steering wheel controls, the older models Navigation can't work on the newer cars with steering wheel controls, (It will play but the steering wheel control will not function)
Seller I am only helping your sale by explaining to all potential buyers so they can understand if interested

I figure it might be some good info for anyone who is in doubt, I have been experiencing with these for a while now, ain't intend on doing it anymore, lol. My first one I bought on here was scratched on the face, second one was from an older model so the steering control was not working, (I sold that about 3 years ago) the third one is in the car now and I just bought a fourth because my third one was not playing because of a connection behind it fell off, so I installed the fourth one to clear the anti-theft and make sure it work as it should before putting it back for sale on here, I then reinstalled back my third and will leave it there permanent, it works like factory. So now you have an idea why I learnt so much about it. lol

Default advice on nav units

So is there an advantage to using the factory unit instead of upgrading, other than cost of the unit? Does it fit better? Keeps the car more original?

I need something new in mine, I have a very basic radio with no Nav.

If you don't mind, could you tell me which Pioneer unit did you go with? Was it easy to install, and did it require any bezels or adapters? I have yet to mess with my dash, I have the tools to do it, but haven't taken anything apart yet.

I was looking at this one:Pioneer A
VH-X490BS in-dash receiver VH-X490BS in-dash receiver

Or this one:
Bose System Bose System

Any input is appreciated, and I will certainly consider yours if there is some advantage

You still have Navigation, CDs, AM/FM channels and I believe access to SiriusXM for a cost. The advantage to going aftermarket for me was it gave me access to a back up camera, DVD playing. Probably overall a better unit but at a cost. I went with a Pioneer AVH-4000NEX unit. Nonthing hard about installation, except time consuming to get access to the radio (plenty of videos on internet on how to disassemble console etc..) It is straight forward if you have the right kits. You need to talk to someone like Crutchfield about your options of head units etc. Installing a backup camera takes time but again straightforward. Everyone’s skill levels are different. Expect to spend an estimated $600.00 up to $1,000.00 depending on the unit, and interface and back up camera etc. Then more if you update your speakers with amp etc. Aftermarket units look like original equipment, most fit pretty much the same from my experience. If your buying new I would go with Crutchfield, they will sell you everything you need for the conversion, not cheap but quality equipment. Good luck. My self the biggest advantage was having a back up camera otherwise I personally was pretty happy with the GM Navigation radio. The reality of it is that you are getting a good GM head unit for around $200.00, you cain’t Purchase a aftermarket unit with similar options for that price range!
Did you know there is a guy selling a kit for the OEM navigation unit to accommodate back up camera and USB ports on here?

Hey thanks for excellent info. I am not worried about a back up camera, nor am i after some high end sound, I have really sensitive hearing, plus tinnitus (constant ringing in my ears). I drive sometimes 8 hours without music, no sound. So the Nav is my main thing plus being able to plug in my phone is a bonus.

I'll let you know, but in either case thanks again and GLWS.
