Difference C6 vs C5 trans
Does any one know if the C5 4l60E auto trans is SHORTER than the
6 speed in the C6 cars and if so, about how much shorter it is.
Thinking of building a hot rod.
Thanks

The 4L60E is actually LONGER than the 6L80E.
4L60E is 31.63" overall, 24.63" from face of b'hsg to CL of trans mount.
6L80E is 29.25" overall, 25.75" from face of b'hsg to CL of trans mount.

if the vette versions in the C5/C6 are different. The info on the site seems to apply to the regular rwd
versions of the transmissions.

The DOHC engine also needed a higher cowl then the C5, so the XLR and the C6 also got the higher cowl(even though it wasn't needed with the OHV LS engines). That, in turn, meant the roof needed to be slightly higher, so the C6 grew 1.4" in height over the C5. All to be able to produce a two seater Caddy roadster with a Caddy engine.
A lot of the design/engineering that you see in the C6 was to be able to make the XLR using high production Corvette parts. The XLR was subsidized by the Corvette. Remember, Dave Hill was a Caddy man at heart, and he wanted a Caddy roadster to try and one up Mercedes. He failed.

What is funny were the people that said the reason the C6 had a longer wheelbase was to make room for the "longer" 6L80E. They were 100% positive that was the reason. The longer wheelbase chassis that was used on the 2004 XLR was to make room for the larger Caddy DOHC Northstar engine. At the same time, GM was also designing the C6, so they made the C6 with the longer wheelbase to standardize on parts.

frankc5r....you're going to build a hot rod with the C5 or C6 transaxle? Don't know the tranny specs on them.
