Those of you with mt ss street tires
#21
I run the 305/35/18 SS as a street tire and have been happy with them for that purpose with 850whp

I don’t have MT SS tires, but I have Nitto NT05R drag radials with 708rwhp and they were never good, and after 500 miles of street use, they are completely worthless in 1st and 2nd gear.
i had Toyo R888s on my 600rwhp mustang and they held the power nicely and lasted a long time.
Now I need to find a better tire for the Vette, but these tire threads seem to confuse me more than anything.

from what I understand
street tire
-straight line only = mickey Thompson
-fast road but some traction sacrifice = r888r or AR1

Stevie has been around for awhile and is a well respected person on here. He is spot on. I can also smoke r888s at 150+. They are grippy for the first 15-20 drives, then become hard rubber pucks. A bit better than the ET Street SS that are useless after a week.

Thanks for all the replies.
it is a tough one as I know drag radials would supply the max grip but don’t like what I hear about them being unstable at high speeds. Also heard they cannot corner at all.
That’s the last thing I need on my car.
I feel I’ve been watching so many reviews it just gets confusing and everyone has there favourite.
it looks as though the ones that come out best for fast road use and occasional track use are
-Nankang AR1
-Yokohama A052
-Yokohama AD08r
-toyo r888r (although above feedback what argue that)

Please inform me of Stevies well respected Corvette, since he cannot speak for himself? Nick, what gear would you be in at 150mph+ to spin those tires? Are we talking bald or brand new?As i understand, you have a 6 speed manual with around 1100 to the tires with your latest motor? Just for your information, i have been in my tuners car which is a street twin turbo Holden VE ute that has made multiple dyno runs at over 1700 to the tyres on our hard mainline dynos. It made closer to 1900 on a dynohub. It is a 6 speed manual and spun the street tires at will at 60-80 mph.. These were not Toyos. I find it hard to believe a 1000 hp car could spin Toyos at 150 mph+
Have a look at the latest LMR video with the 1000 rwhp C7 ZR1 with the r888rs. He can roll into it in 3rd gear at 55mph on a PD blower with instant torque of a 8 speed auto and hook..

Well, thats different to my experience on the toyos and i live in a hot climate. Sure, they heat cycle, but with my power level of 580 to 600 rwh, they still hook great.

Can you spin them at over 150 mph + at ease! To me that is just flooring the car at that speed! Not get airborne etc! That is the question? And i am not having a crack at you! Just the people who claim it!

if I do go for some mt SS I was looking at 305/40/18 as I already have the 18’ weld beadlocks.

MT Street SS are fine but corning is compromized. After going from 10+ sets of ET street 2s/Street SS to a Toyo, I'll take the 10-20% less traction to handle/ride/corner better. Then again that is up to you what you want. There is no perfect tire, so what trade offs do you want.
As for the 12 year old spewing stupidity on this thread, easier to just block him and move on listening to the adults.

This is an irrelevant discussion over tires With the LMR car. LMRs car has a wing.

ive purchased the 18’ beadlocks already which is the only problem so may have to sell them for standard wheels.
may be a stupid question but if I put something like an r888r on the rear beadlocks, could it still corner or are beadlocks a definite no for cornering?
ive never had them before so unsure
