Quick answer is yes, but some things will need to be upgraded such as the clutch if you have a manual trans.
Power depends on what you are willing to do to the car. Just a centrifugal supercharger with a boost a pump and injectors can get you around 500 rwhp. If you add meth and exhaust around 550. Longevity of the motor will mostly depend on your tuner and how you care for/drive your car
With that being said anything can happen even with no supercharger, might as well have fun with it.

No, you do not need a cam with a supercharger. There are complete kits that are bolt on that come with everything including a tune.
Magnuson Heartbeat, Edelbrock E-force, ECS, and A&A are the main superchargers for our cars. The first two of those are positive displacement types; the second two are centrifugal (basically a belt-driven turbo).
Positive displacement superchargers produce steady boost at all RPMs and max torque starting very low so are very fun for stop light to stop light street driving. They are extremely reliable and require almost no maintenance.
Centrifugal superchargers build boost more and more as RPM's go higher and tend to make more top end power. These usually require regular oil changes for the supercharger unit (not a big deal really).
None of these will make your engine any less reliable at horse power levels of 500 to 600 hp.
Now, other supporting mods can and do enhance power generation; cam, heads, headers, methanol injection, etc. But these are not necessary.
Just adding a supercharger also won't affect the driveability either.

About ten years on my 06 with an A&A T-trim. Puts 540 to the ground and reliable as the day is long. The LS2 is a stout motor. Think I’m going to be swapping to a smaller pulley and add meth this year up the power some.
Do it you’ll love it

I have a box stock ECS kit for an LS2, full exhaust, including Kooks 1 5/8 headers, Kooks catted x pipe, and SLP Loud Mouth 2 axle back. It made 589/540 Tuned by MS Tuning in Houston TX. The car drives great, I would say almost like stock. The clutch has held up, mainly due to the factory Goodyears suck for traction. I would highly recommend adding boost to your ride.

We regularly make around 525-600 rwhp with no cam on supercharger kits. They are plenty safe with proper tuning and a good fuel system.
With a cam we can generally add another 50-75 rwhp. We've brought some stock bottom end cars into the 700rwhp range and had some success but I wouldn't push any further then that.....well not without a back up plan.
