Default Question about MT Drag Radials

Just finished up some mods and made a hair under 800rwhp. Time to move to drag radials

My car is a base model with the narrow fenders all around. I have some repo cup wheels in stock sizes and I'm looking to add the MT ET Street 2's in 305/35R19.

Does anybody have these mounted on stock sized wheels on a narrow body? Normally I'm pretty sure they would fit but I have to run a 1/2in spacer in the rear to clear the Z06 brakes so I'm worried they will poke out and hit the fenders.

I looked up the specs on the MTs and the section width is 11.5in. According to Tirerack, my stock sized PSS (285/35R19) section width is 11.4in and they fit with room to spare under the fenders. The 305 PSS section width is 12.3in and that was too big. From those numbers I'm guessing that the MTs will fit.

Does anybody have any experience with this set up?

Thanks

I can vouch to that setup and say that 100% it will fit on the stock wheels and drive just fine. I used to run the 305 mickeys on my narrow body with invos in the front and they just fine! I no longer run the setup because she's my DD and do some Highway driving for work and pleasure so wanted to go back to the invos for tire life and rain dependability but I loved those mickeys when they were on. I'm making 630 and they hooked my car up great! Get ready to be swapping tires pretty often but oh boy are they sticky!

Appreciate it. Did you run spacers with the stock wheels? If not do you recall how much room you has left before the tire would hit the fender when the suspension is compressed? Ballpark number is fine.

I didn't run any spacers with the setup. The tires will fit the wheel well nicely. It sticks out a little further then the stock size, but looks great. It doesn't stick out and make it look like they don't belong. Makes it look beefier and much meaner in my opinion. I honestly have no idea on even a ballpark number to give you maybe someone will chime in I know plenty of people run those tires on their cars. I run 305 invos currently I haven't had the mickeys since last spring but from what I remember of them and my current invos there is plenty of room. I DD my car and we don't have the smoothest roads and I have never had any issues or worry in it not having the clearance to drive it comfortably and safety. Just throw those tires on the stock wheels, I would recommend a speedo change because it will throw off your speedo from the stock sizes, and go. It'll behave normally and you'll be really happy with the traction gain.

I ran those tires for a while on stock rims. They fit very nicely but I was also running no spacers. Below are some pics. I think they should be ok with the spacers but it is impossible for me to say for sure.

Thanks realcanuk that side profile shot is what I was looking for. I'm not worried about slight rubbing. The 305 PSS I had rubbed like crazy and I don't really want that again. I'm think the Mikey's will fit nicely.

Ps I'm really liking your YSI build. Looking forward to the results.

I also run the 305's and make high 700's on a narrow body. Looks great, and great traction. Good luck!

Also does anybody have the MT 305s on a TSW Interlogo or nurimbergring wheel?

I'm thinking about switching over to either of these since they clear Z06 brakes and don't require spacers. I know they hav more aggressive offsets than stock wheel so do so I'm wondering how close they get to the fenders.

If you want to have a better chance of hooking and you're going to change the wheels anyway, go for the 295/45/17 Mickey T's. The taller side wall makes a BIG difference.

Lowest I'll go is to an 18in wheel. Still a street car that will see ZERO 1/4in duty. I just want a little more traction for some highway fun. I want to keep my wheels matching also so I'll have to stick with the cup wheel

I have decided to go with a 18" Weld RT-S setup with 345 MT's. Looks great and should hold my 700rw. Have you thought about a widebody rear conversion to accommodate a wider tire?

Yes I've thought about it. If I did the wide body, it'll be the whole car. I don't like the looks of the wide booty for some reason. I don't have the funds for that right now and plus I kinda like the narrow body. Gonna have to make it work for now.

Unless you're hittin corners really hard, the 17s are not that bad. I did the 305/35R18 MTs, and quickly switched to 295/45R17. I'm only at 650whp too.

The 295/17 hooks much better than the 18's from my experience as well.

Thanks for the info. If I can find a 17in cup wheel I'd consider it. I like the simplicity of just getting another set of 19in cups and using the MT 305/35R19. I'm just doing highway roll ons so I think I'll be ok. My problem is I have to run the spacers to clear the z06 brakes

You can also order NT05R's in 305/35/19. They aren't listed on the big tire sites but if you call you can order them. I am going to be trying these myself for the street... although I also have dedicated 17" wheels with 295/45/17 MT's. I figure the NT05R's would be nice to leave on the car most of the time. Just another option.

I have 17" base model replicas and M&H 275/50r17 and I love them. I can still blast offramps with confidence and they hook all of what I have given them so far (~700whp) in EVERY gear even first.

I appreciate the feedback everyone. One thing I think everyone missed is that I have the Z06 brakes so I require 1/2in spacers so if I get a smaller front wheel I think it'll sit outside the fender due to the offset plus the spacer. I'd love to get a 17in front cup wheel and run the MT 295/45R17 but I think the lower offset and spacer will push it out too far.

The 17" replica wheels normally have way less offset than stock. To put it in perspective it's the same as running a 3/4" spacer on the stock wheel.

Here is a better pic, they sit flush. I don't have Z06 brakes but my Z51 are not even remotely close.
