It has a lot to do with how it shifts and releases one gear to goto another. Tuning has to be spot on or it will flares on shifts and blow out the clutch packs/etc. Even tuned perfect I've never seen one last long at the 800rwhp range.

Either turn the power down to ~650-700rwhp, and hope it lives once rebuilt and tuned well, or swap it to something that can handle your power.

Abstinence huh. I'd rather wrap it before I tap it.

Or get a tranny that can handle it. By tranny I mean a 4l80, not Sherry.

Stuck in 3rd gear is the default safety selection the pcm/tcm makes when it senses one or more of the many potential issues. I would have someone competent check for codes and take a peek at the tune. I have seem them go into this limp mode many a time and the transmission is physically fine.

Exactly.... COULD you get one to work.... Possible.... Would it be 100% guaranteed to work and RARELY fail.... NO... End of story. There is a reason RPM doesnt build them.

Is there another tranny out there I can use that still uses the paddle shifters and is still a 6 speed?

So I'll ask the question one more time - do my results not count???

Just because you chose to align yourself with a company that hasn't had any success with the 6L80 does NOT mean "End of story". I think having to only rebuild mine twice in just over 800 passes kinda speaks for itself.

I get that you are running low 10s, but how much power? You could be running low 10s with 600rwhp which is a bit different than 780+rwhp. I find that the 6l80s are decent around 650rwhp which could be a solid 9 second car with a good setup.

So does anyone have good results in the 750+ range with a 6l80? I haven't seen it yet.

Mine is on it's second summer at 780 rwhp but very limited runs at the track. Even with some pretty hard street use it's fine, but I have my doubts about it lasting with tons of 1/4 mile runs.

I'm at about 600rwhp but I'm shifting at 7300RPM and have frequently made 8-10 passes in a 2 hour span on a slow Wednesday night at the track. That kind of abuse is gonna be a LOT harder on the transmission than a car making more power but not beating on it as much.

Thats like saying there is one ls7 out there that hasnt broke an exh valve yet.... Does that mean there isnt a problem? Not going to argue about this. 6L80's are junk and not reliable... If you have success with them thats great but my opinion is my opinion and when customers ask me my opinion I give it to them.

All these years of racing and technology and the only choice we have is a ancient 4 speed that makes it boring to drive. I think I may put a manual in it. This is my first automatic car. Pretty disappointed to say the least.

Driving a 1000hp 4 speed is anything but boring. The only difference is you don't have paddles. Are paddles really that big of a deal?

I think automatics ate boring. The only reason why I considered a auto vette is cause I can still control when the car shifts and it shifts faster than a manual.

We've done lots of 6L80s and had great success so far but as with any other type of high performance build, sh*t occasionally does happen. We are not however alone in this category because it would take me all of 5 mins to go on LS1tech.com and find several examples of people having different issues spanning builders, trans types and power levels.
Subfloor,

I am betting on you being right! Matt at FSP is currently building my 2012 GS with a Century A6 trans. I have put my faith in a Century trans and Matt's tune
