Help Me Choose Headers for my FI LS3
Ok guys. Ive read a few threads on the matter but I wanted to see more specific results specifically dealing with a supercharged motor. Please let me know what you recommend and why. Also I'd love to hear any personal experiences. My car is a C5 but has an LS3 so Im posting here. Thanks.
Keep my Texas Speed 1 3/4 headers or upgrade to LG 1 7/8 headers? or any similar brand.
Motor and mods:
Vortech v2 si trim 8psi 610/570 to the wheels, 6500 redline
LS3, forged 10.1:1cr
LS3 heads, stock with ported exhaust
TSP cam 231/236 114lsa
LS3 intake stock
TSP 1 3/4 headers with 3in x pipe
4L65E w/Circle D 3200 triple disc converter and 3.42 gears

I voted to stay with 1 3/4. When driving around and off boost I would think the smaller tube makes more torque.
True, it may be a restriction and you'll make more power with the bigger tube. If you have the money and really want to gain more power, to me its a no brainer, otherwise you are already making enough power to get anyone in trouble.

I currently have an ecs kit with the novi 1500 and lg 1 7/8" super pros. On 93 octane I made 620whp and 570wtq. Everyone says you will have more torque down low with the 1 3/4 headers which is probably the case. But I can promise you I have never at any rpm said damn I wish I had more torque.
But saying that I see you already have headers. And unless you get a hell of a deal I would see no reason at this time to upgrade to 1 7/8. Unless you plan on getting some serious hp later on. Just my 2 cents. Don't know how much of a difference my blower and yours are in being responsive but that is my results.

I was asking because I can sell my headers and a few other parts and get the LG 1 7/8 headers and x pipe for about $700. Wondering if it's worth it.

For 610 rwhp why change to 1 7/8? I make 700 rwhp with 1 3/4 and my buddy made 785 with same set up I prolly wouldn't change mine unless I went bigger than a novi 1500 and more than 850 wheel...

650 rwhp is the range where I'd think upgrading might be worthwhile. I made over 700 whp through 1.75" headers, but it's hard to say what kind of gain I would have seen by going to the 1.875" on the same car. Some tests I've seen have shown almost zero loss of low rpm torque with 1.875" headers vs. 1.75", but with notable gains up top for the 1.875".
I might get $hit for saying this, but I'd stay away from LG headers. They might make good power, but they're a pain in the *** to deal with otherwise. All my slip-fit connections leaked (and LG acted totally surprised to hear this) and were nearly impossible to take apart when trying to work on the car. This was on a low-mileage, garaged, So Cal car too. I sold them and bought a set of 1.75" Pfadt headers that were outstanding.
With Pfadt out of the picture, ARH or Kooks would be the brands I'd be looking at. They have ball & socket connections and less joints. Much easier to work with than the LGs.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've decided to keep my headers for now and go with a bigger intercooler and a 3.4 pulley which I already have. This should give a few extra ponies.

Not worth it to change if you ask me. I made 754rwhp on my old setup. Should be 800 or more with the new 10.2:1 forged LS3 and ported LSA heads. Sure I would maybe see 20rwhp more, but I just don't care enough. Yet....
If you step it up to a YSi or 2200R, then 2" would be a better option anyways.

Power Labs did a comparison of his car at almost 600 whp and found minimal difference/ gain. I'm not sure it would be worth the cost.

When you get up in power, $700 for 20rwhp isn't that bad. Power starts getting expensive. Plus you will have headers that support more if you ever go any higher. It is up to you, but I would upgrade.
