Default high horsepower and 20" wheels. what tires are you running?

I've searched the forum and i can't find a thread that answers my exact question. Im currently 780rwhp and I've been eyeing the factory 19/20 cup wheels. I like my car to handle as well as hook up when accelerating. I know it's going to be long shot mixing the two. So my question is what's a good handling tire that hooks up the best?

At that power level, it's hard to keep the wheels from spinning until 3rd gear short of using a drag radial. that's been discussed here many times and recently so weird you can't find a thread. Nito NT05R, R888s, hoosier A6s, michelin ZPs.

for the 20" rears, a tire that has been getting very good reviews on different boards as well is the pirelli pzero trofeo R. Not sure if the size you need is available for the 20", those are the oem tire for the upcoming Z28. look into those.

I've searched and read allot of threads about tires. Almost all of them are about drag radials. Where as im looking for a grippy tire that can handle the curves and straight line acceleration. I know tires designed to handle aren't the best for acceleration. I'm basically looking for a best of both worlds type of tire that fits on a 20" wheel.

for DD probably the better all around tire is the michelin pss for price and performance of it. I would look into those pirellis, more expensive but super grip.

You will never, ever come close to putting down 780 HP on a 20" tire.

Consider going the other direction to 17" if you want to hook.

oh jeez... But seriously if you know how to drive you can make em work... I'd rather be on nice cup wheels then rolling around on c5 z front 17s! Just look out of place on a c6... But OP good luck with whatever you decide... I'm just trying to help, he's a good friend of mine and he will be in the 9s on 20s very soon, it can be done, may be easier with a bigger tire but if you can drive it I wouldn't sweat it (:

I'm running 950 RWHP on 20's. They're useless and even when I was running 720 RWHP, they were useless, when brand new. You will not find 20's that hook anywhere with 780WHP.

are you talking about on the street, drag strip or road course? what are you looking for? I have a set of rims and tires for the street, which are mainly for looks and a set for track which are for performance.

Nothing is gonna remotely hook on a rubber band tire... Stick with 18s if you want the slightest chance of getting any kind of traction at all over 700hp.

Not like you can't go around turns on 18s.... Road race cars aren't running 20s......

C6R ran 18's all the way around. C7R runs 18's all the way around. There is the upper limit benchmark for performance.

Do the 15 inch wheel conversion and never look back. 20 inch wheels IMO are more for looks than performance depending on hp. With 20 inch Nitto Invos, H/C on my Z06 @ 580hp would just rape the tires. 20 inch wheels will still bolt on with this conversion also. heres my current set up

I've only driven the car on 15lbs which makes around 1150 hp. On 28lbs the car made 1450 but even with the 15 inch wheels it still spun. Currently installing Pro EFI with traction control. Don't mean to hijack the thread
