Livernois or TSP have nice engine options. $14-15k is probably what you are looking at. I paid $8800 just for a short block. Add heads, cam, push rods, valve train, etc and it adds up fast. Sell your stock motor for $6k or so.

Contact a reputable engine builder and have them build you a short block. Do not buy a crate engine or some off the shelf crap.

20K builds one HELL of a long block... It can certainly be done for about half of that with very good parts.

I just finished a Iron block 408 long block for $9000 with the following parts. These are premium parts as well.
Iron 6.0 (NEW) with pinned mains
Main Girdle
Head and Main Studs
Callies Dragonslayer Crank
Callies Ultra I Beam Rods
Diamond Dished Pistons
Calico Coated Bearings
NEW LSA head castings CNC machined by Charlie at RPM
BT Racing Springs with Titanium retainers
Ferrea Hollow stem Intake Valves
Ferrea Inconel Exhaust Valves
Arun Spec'd Cam
Iwis Timing Chain with Cloyes sprockets
3/8 pushrods
Factory Rockers with Comp Trunions

That is a recipe for a engine that can take one serious beating and hold down 1000+rwhp all day, every day.
Unless you move to a ERL, RHS, or Dart block and go to a Billet crank, the parts dont get much better either.

If you re-use your block and just have your heads worked over your cost will be even less then that for a near bullet proof engine. I would personally dump the LS7 block though for a Iron or a RHS aluminum.

I've heard too many bad things about Texas Speed to ever use them myself. Livernois has a rush option for an extra $200 that will get your motor built in 1.5-2 weeks. Just noticed that today checking out their website. Erik at HKE is another top notch place to go. You would have to contact him for a lead time though.

Check out Golen Engine boosted long blocks. They are about the same price as a Tx Speed motor but use All Pro heads in the build. RHS block upgrade is $2500. 1/2" head studs $400.

They also do a Whipple 4L build, if you want to go big.

I would not hesitate to use Bryan at LME again. The product and service was excellent and I got my short block fairly quickly. Pricing was more than competitive..
Dragonslayer crank
Caillies ultra billet rods
Wiesco pistons with gas porting
Melling ported oil pump
etc etc etc
Was about 6300.00 not including shpping

I almost went with livernois. What I didnt like is they source there parts from a few suppliers and couldnt guarantee me what I wanted. They basically said they would use what they had at the time.

I had no issues with Livernois besides the 6 month lead time on a calles dragonslayer. Then again anyone would have the same issue.

Realcanuk, that is something that happened to me but I didn't bother. It is their spec pistons but they used Ross in my motor instead of the Diamonds I expected. Same material, specs, etc. They said they use about a 50/50 split because diamond can't keep up with the supply.

I don't want to do my block up tho. Want a complete crate built engine so I can sell off my stock long motor. They are still felting 6+k. Prefer a rhs block n aftermarket heads for the 6k I will get for my stocker

a BUILT RHS motor oil pan to intake will set you back WAY more than 6k IMO.. a good set of heads is 3-4k alone..

12-14.....

I would personally stay away from LSX blocks, I trust the good old Iron 6.0's more then I do the LSX blocks. Have seen quite a few failures. Never personally seen a Iron 6.0 fail.

If you're on a budget the stock shortblock will be fine But at the minimum you will need the following for 14-15 psi on the YSI.

-ARP Headstuds
-New set of Head Gaskets
-Probly Injectors
-Walbro 400lph pump (should be a Direct Drop in)
- Stainless Steel Exhaust Valves & New Valve Guides (This is most important for you)
- Dual Nozzle Meth Injection or E-85 (A Must at that boost level because 11-1 comp)
- Fluids
- Tune
- 3.25 8 rib pulley

That should all come in less then $3,000 to get to your desired power level if you install yourself.

At that boost level you should be around 850whp + or -

Not on a budget really but I don't like spending money unnecessarily. Why spend 20k on a donk when it can be built for 15k. Honestly don't like the thought of 16psi n stock bottom end. I'd rather spend the money n do it right b4 I have piston or cracked block problems
