This just happened to me. Driving home at 2:30 am and the belt just broke in half. Clean break. After getting a ride home I purchase a new belt, installed it and thought I was done. I also noticed the tensioner pulley was damaged..also replaced it at the same time as the belt. Started engine and it wasn't charging. My alternater was the problem. Froze up solid without any previous warning. Replace alternater the next day and all is well. Not saying that is your problem,,,but it's worth a look. Good luck...Mike

Just realized I'm in the Forced Induction/Nitrous section. My car is NA. May not be the same belt that your asking about. I was describing the serpentine belt off my 2008 engine.

I understand, hence the reason a Flip Drive is very important, it illiminates the long belt that goes around the alternator, it avoid having to tighthen the belt to damage the alternator and water pump bearings.
When the long belt is used to avoid belt slipage on the supercharger the belt has to be tighten very hard and that causes the bearing to have pressure on them and it causes failure on the bearings.

I got my Green HD belt local at Fleetpride. They are a truck and diesel service company. Actually had the belt in stock. 1sc334 I am running a direct drive so my belt size is probably different than yours but mine was K080545HD.
Not sure I can answer your question about why it happens. I know why mine broke but your situation may be totally different than mine. If you cannot find the belt you need in the size you need check with ECS they may be able to point you to a distributor that has your size.

Helga The Green HD Belts are made by the GATES company. You want to look for Gates first then look for the Green HD. I can give you the phone number of the place I bought mine from but it would be just as easy for you to order from someone closer to you.

Usually if a belt snaps clean in half it was left too lose, try the next size smaller belt (ko60888) and/or make sure your fixed idler under the head unit is adjusted all the way. The tensioner needs to be at least half way threw it's travel at rest.

Hope that helps.
