Default [First nitrous install] LS3 with NX 90mm plate system

Hey CF,
I have an LS3 cam-only vette that I race on the regular and I wanted to try my hand at adding nitrous to my car.

I went with the NX 90mm plate kit, purge, progressive controller, fpss,etc

Here are some pics from the install. The main nitrous feed line is way too long so I'll be cutting off the excess and adding the fitting so it isn't so messy.

Comments, critiques, and thoughts are welcome. Thanks!

Initial solenoid placement but it was way too busy. I ended up ordering custom lines to clean up the install and mount the noids together.

The fuel line is still 1" too long so I have another line on the way to clean up the lines running from the noids to the plate.

Bottle mounted to pressboard, sandwiched in between the insulation and rear carpet

Tapped into the VSS, tach signal, and TPS wires at the ecu so I didn't have to run wires everywhere in the engine bay

Nitrous feed, battery positive(1 gauge), wideband, timing box, and all nitrous wiring go through these holes in the firewall.

There are essentially 2 tunes loaded in the car and they change at the flip of this switch, thanks to resistors used to set the ECT to exactly 237* which allows a whole new timing map to be written

I also relocated the battery to the rear hatch compartment in preparation for the standalone fuel cell to take its place up front

HP Tuners interface, NGK AFX wideband controller, and Maximizer 4 progressive controller all secured in the glove box.

Looks prett good. How much are you going to spray and what plugs are you using? Tuning yourself? Oh and what fuel are you going to run in the standalone?

BR7EF plugs are in and the car seems to run fine on the n/a tune still.
My local nitrous guru buddy did the tune but it hasn't been on the dyno yet. I'm still doing some street pulls to make sure everything is working correctly.

It only has a 75 shot in it right now and I may try the 100 pills if the fuel pump can handle it. It's highly unlikely that I can go to the 150 shot(ultimate goal is 200) without increasing the fuel delivery so until then, I'll keep it mild. I'll likely just run 93 octane in the standalone as I'm not trying for a crazy shot.

Good I'm glad you are running non-projected tip plugs. So many people run the other crap with nitrous and it's not good. Should be good with 93 in the standalone on a 75 shot anything over a 100 I'd run atleast 109. When I used nitrous I ran C16 in the standalone but I started spraying at 150 then eventually went to 250 via direct port lol.

As long as you have the right plugs, correct amount of timing pulled, and fuel supply you'll have a lot of fun with nitrous. It can be very addicting though so watch out.

Ya the 75 shot feels ok--I can barely feel it. It feels like the vtec in my wifes Honda Civic. There are a few places who sell race gas at the pump so we'll see. I want to run a 150 shot which should put me close to 700whp/700wtq which is about the limit of my transmission so we'll see how it goes.

I'm already having fun with it even though it's a small shot.

I would shorten the fuel line between the nozzle and the solenoid as much as you can. That'll help with the lean spike on the hit.

Thanks Dave. Ya, I have a 1" shorter line on order from NX. I had them custom make the 3 main lines but one was still an inch too long.

Aside from that, what else can be done about the lean spike? On the hit, it goes to .96 lambda and then falls down to .84 within about .15 of a second. That doesn't seem like very long and I'm not overly concerned with it, but is this something the standalone will address?

Standalone will help, but having the solenoid only a couple inches from the nozzle is the best way to combat it. You've got nitrous at ~1000psi versus fuel at ~55psi (actually more like 45). The nitrous will move a hell of a lot faster, so making it cover more ground before it gets there helps.

150ms at too lean with a ton of cylinder pressure is enough time for things to go kaboom.

Hm, I guess I don't understand. The Nitrous outlet kit and most, if not all, of the other installs I've seen have the noids in the same place. With that in mind, I guess everyone has a lean spike on the hit?

If you haven't already purchase a standalone. I have this in garage, bolts in using stock battery hold down.

Car is going to haul the mail, Justin. As one of the best 1/4 drivers here, you should be putting down some killer times soon. Just run slower than a 9.68, and we are still friends.

I would have to knock a full second of my current best of 10.67 to get there...

could a 150 shot, twin disk, and 3.90 gears be the ticket? I doubt it, but we'll see
