Default external waste gate dump

does anyone have a video or audio clip of just how loud a twin turbo waste gate dumping into the air is?

i found numerous ones of the wastegate going back into the system, but none for going into the air

Thank you

How does it sound tho? i actually like the loud and obnoxious sound it may make.

my brother told me that as cool as it is, i'll get sick of it for a dailyish driver

any audio of it?

no audio. I have built/driven plenty of open wg cars in my day. I personally dont mind how loud it is when they are fully open. In a "daily driver" how often are you really in boost enough that it would open the gates? My guess is hardly ever.

Aren't you just going to hear it under boost when they are bleeding it off? Why would that be bad for a daily?

Well i have a ttix kit that wont make less than 17psi without creeping. Looking at the design i think i could knock that down a bit so i am considering doing this myself.

I have run both external dump and re-routed back into exhaust. I will never run open dump again, it's just too annoying. True, it only dumps when you have reached wastegate pressure, but it sounds like a jet is taking off and gets old after a bit. To each their own though, if you like the crazy loud sound, then go for it.

To user_name: if you run an open down pipe, the boost will creep even more with less back pressure.

I am running mufflers. That alone took 4psi of boost creep away, but I still make 17psi on 13psi springs or anything smaller.

not sure but, usually when running ext dumping gate it should prevent boost creep. because it help wg to flow more less back pressure which will flow better and quicker. but less back pressure in EXHAUST system will more likely created boost creep. my single turbo supra is external dump sound like a jet, its not annoying since i hardly fully boost on the street. i had boost creep problem with the sti, cause wg wont flow enough, put a external one problem solved

I'll post my experience. This was on a 70mm single turbo with a 38mm tial wastegate. At WOT, it sounded like I ran over a Harley motorcycle and it got stuck under the car with the exhaust pipes point at the firewall.

You couldn't hear anything when not in boost, but as soon as the wastgate opened, this was the only sound I could hear. It attracted the wrong kind of attention from law enforcement due to the noise.

I modified a lawnmower muffler and put it on the outlet of the wastegate to knockdown some of the noise. It made the sound bearable.

Here is a vid of mine with open WG dump straight down at rear of bumper. It's a Leer Jet sound and i am addicted to the sound. Also has a 4" downpipe with a 4" glasspack muffler for diesel trucks.
