So does this mean you've seen a stock rod fail at 800?

I've never actually heard of a stock rod failure ever. Possibly this is partly due to everyone with a BIG hp builds replacing them, but never-the-less, my question stands.

Cheers, Paul.

I would like to know more about your build. Di you buy the car that way? If not who did it and did they balance the rotating assembly or just add pistons. I've HEARD from a pretty reputable shop that if you have a new motor with hardly any miles that you can just add pistons ( that weight close to stock) and bolts and it will seat the new rings just fine. Not saying that I would do it, but interested in seeing how long it would last.

Just read a thread on LS1 tech where those crazies took a stock 5.3L truck engine, added 317 heads to lower c/r, boosted it to 25psi, and then added at 125 shot of nitrous to spool the turbo. Hmmmmm. Not sure how the 5.3L truck rods compare to the LS2 stuff, but I'm guessing they're nothing special. Maybe those stock rods are better than conventional wisdom would lead us to believe

Is the LS2 rod's and crank made of something different than the LS3's? because those can hold a TON of power..

It's the rod bolts that don't last. The rods and crank are pretty reliable and long as the tune is spot.

That is true for almost all motors.
As an example, the 2L 4 cylinder Ecoboost GM puts on the Cobalt SS and other hopped up econoboxes survived nearly 1000CHP during testing with just the addition of ARP Rod Bolts and head studs.
