Just finished a ECS install on my C6 and am wondering what everyone does to prevent some tech guy from abusing your expensive investment when you take it in for alignment or other work...
Is there a way to limit RPM's by a switch or other means?
I cringe at the thought of some service kid taking my car out.
just make a "valet tune. They will be stuck doing 0 to 10 mph lol
Would love to do that to my S/C car. Would take alot of the worry out of unapproved joyrides. Similar to the C4 ZR-1's valet switch.
How do you do something like that and how do you turn it on and off? Is that something you do in addition to a custom tune or does that also take the place of the tune you already have? Thanks.
As a friend of alot of mechanics ill tell you that most guys out there will take your car out and give it hell I have seen it alot and been in several cars that they take on ''test drives'' The valet tune is a great idea also another good idea is to put a tracking system on her and let the service writer know that you have one and that you don't want any test drives. Personally i use teletrac it works great tells you exactly what the car is doing at all times. And never valet your car those guys are much worse then techs.
hp tuners you can completly tune your car. in this case you just make the tune shut down the fuel system at 2500 rmp...or 2000 for that matter lol. you would have to upload the tune before you drop it off ...takes about 2 min to hook up and swap tune or make a change
I know only 1 way.Don't let your car outa your site..I can do my own test drives.
The best bet is to have a great relationship with your servicing dealer and this will never be a problem. My car has been serviced for warranty work and if any test drive was necessary I was driving the car.
If you can't trust your Mechanic to road test your Vett I would not trust them to work on it either.
Its not only the mechanics you need to worry about its everyone in the business who might get ahold of the keypod. The 19 year old kids used to shuttle the cars from lot to lot are notorious wreckers. Salesman who sell Vettes all day and cant afford one themselves are others I have read about in the papers. The list is long, trusted mechanics also wreck customers cars. Im sure you've been disapointed by people you've trusted in the past, I sure have.
lets just say i took my vette in for its free oil change when i first got it and they couldnt even get it started..... i said i will drive it onto the hoist an took my fob back. granted i had one of the very first c6's hitting the street but damn you would think that they would know how to start it. that was the first...n last straw for me...not been in any shop but my own since lol... they can change to oil on my bon evil ss lol
Lingenfelter sells a boost bypass Valet mode kit. I've got one installed with my TVS. It is mounted in the glovebox and comes with a set of keys. I'm not sure if it will work with the centris though.
Is there any simple way to "de-boost" it?? What about disconnecting the vacuum line from the Tial50?? Maybe disconnect the inlet tube infront of the MAF??
What effect would this have on the car?
I doubt the car will stay running with the charge pipe removed and disconnecting the vacuum line off the BPV/BOV will keep the valve shut at idle and not vent until the pressure overpowers the spring. Not good.
For those who have their cars custom tuned at a shop would SOL unless you stopped by there on the way to get your car serviced and asked them to change it for you and then again on your way back.
