Default Cam for C6Z06 with 1600 RWHP

Hello,

I'm wondering which cam the High HP pro's would recommend for a 8.5:1 481CI warhawk block with twin 76's?

This car is going to be a daily driver and should make around 1150 at the wheels on pump gas (obviously a helluva lot more on race gas with the boost cranked up). I'm looking for a profile that is a great turbo cam and very drivable for a large CI motor (this shouldn't be a hard combo, but I really am hoping that several folks will all agree on one extremely efficient cam and post it here!!!)

Thoughts?

This is the type of thing I'd be talking to Wheel 2 Wheel about as they have experience with 6 second LS based cars.

Thanks! Any idea how I can get in touch with them?

I've talked to several "pro's" but I can't seem to find a single (or even similar) profile that everyone seems to agree on.

I really want to build this thing right the first time....

Where are you based out of? Surely you'll be using a stand alone engine management system. We're in the midst of building an LS based motor turbo car with about the same HP. This car will be more along a race car however.

I'm in San Fran (what not traveling! LOL).

What kind of cam are you going with on your race car? What kind of recommendation could you give me that would be a good mix between street and absolute HP?

Thanks,
Ed

Sorry - forgot to give a response to your comment. I'm actually going to be using an injector driver box from a member that posts here on CVForum. I can drive 160's with the stock computer utilizing his driver box.

I am a little concerned about speed density tuning the stock PCM since no one out there is doing it yet and I really don't think mass air is going to cut it at these power levels.. Thoughts?

I've run Big Stuff 3 on some other projects I've put together but I am trying to stick with stock computer and instrumentation in this car (sort of a goal of this project).

I've just had a long and healthy discussion with Tom B from Turbocharged Power Systems. He was most helpful and I will probably end up doing business with him.

I'm still looking for cam recommendations, though!!!

go to their website and email Kurt Urban. From what I read here it sounds like you want something totally custom. To fit 76s you are going to need a top mount style of some sort. I would even call Lingenfelter. You would need a set up like Norms to get these kind of numbers. I remember reading a MT mag and Norm was close to 180k on his set up. So I would suggest you get a lot of checks ready with a few pens with a lot of ink. This is a science project that will take 6 months to 1 year to finish. Good luck. All I have to say about that.

Cartek is building a really insane motor with a warhawk block. it looks incredible and will be some crazy amount of HP when done. You might give them a call. They are working on theirs right now cartek.net ask for Dave or Julio

So are you going with a custom intake and 16 injectors?

Stock LS7 intake and 160 Lbs/hr injectors (only 8 of them...)
My only concern is that the plastic intake won't grenade at 30 PSI! Yikes!

I appreciate everyone's input.

After talking with Tom a little more today, he's very much in favor of the comp cams turbo cam. He's built many a 1500 HP mustang so I'm thinking he knows what time it is. Efficiency is the key!

What will I do with all that power?

Well, you know as well as I do that anything over about 750-800 at the wheels is useless unless you put together an all out race tranny and rear suspension which I am unwilling to do at this point...

I'm guessing I'll run it on pump gas around 15 PSI (roughly 1,000 at the wheels) with some sticky DOT 345 R6's on the rear and hope for traction past about 60-70 MPH! LOL

Maybe shoot for a new land speed record in my class (no idea what that would be.... This would probably end up requiring some hardcore changes to the car which, once again, aesthetically, I'm unwilling to do.

(In all honesty I have no idea what I'm going to do with this much HP but it will be cool to build it and learn a few things along the way)

With those power goals I would look at a custom intake with 16 injectors, because with injectors over say 90lbs/hr some cars have problems at idle but with two 45lbs/hr injects for each cylinder they have fixed the idling problem. LPE has there new 427 LS7 car making 1300 RWHP and they used a 16 injector intake. Jason over there talked to me for about hour and half on day about that project. With 1600 RWHP you’re going to be able to watch your gas gauge race to empty. I know my last Z06 427 I sold to my dad was 573 RWHP and after doing a few runs on the track I would eat 1/3 my tank up.

Yup, we sure are.

Solid roller for sure, but I'd be more concerned about your engine combo than about your cam profile for right now.

Agreed. Staged injection would be the best option for this setup. We've used it on a few cars and it's an awesome setup

We are working on a 105mm TB for these monster applications. It will only work w/a custom sheetmetal intake. We have a 90 on the 1,000 rwhp TT in the shop now.
