Default Newby Trying To Get Started

I'm new at performance upgrading and I need your opinions.

I've always wanted a street rod, but what with family responsibilities I've had to have a sensible car instead. Now I'm a little older and I bought an 08 convertible which goes fast as heck and looks cool even when it's standing still. It's not really a street rod, but it's the closest I'm going to come to one and anyway it's the best of both worlds. As you can see from my user name, I think it's a cool rod.

I've got the LS3 with the NPP so I'm sitting on 436 HP, at least the way GM figures it, and I have the factory performance axle. I want to give it a performance boost so when I run into someone who wants to show off his Mustang by beating a Corvette I can make him go home crying.

I don't have room for a nitrous bottle. I like the idea of a supercharger and that's where I'd like your input.

I like the looks of a polished Maggie, but I've heard it requires a new hood because it won't fit otherwise. That seems like an additional expense and it would also be a tipoff that I'm not running stock. If I went that way I guess I'd wait for the four lobe Eaton to come available and I'd just bite the bullet on the hood. It's a possibility if you guys think it'd be worth it.

I don't know anything about superchargers but from what I've read here it seems that a Procharger will fit. It seems that a lot of people went that route, so I'd like to hear why they chose it. Maybe that's the way to go.

What else is necessary to add to get the supercharger? Are headers required? Can they be used with the NPP exhaust that I have? What's the best choice there? I've seen some shops offering package deals, but I'm not sure what the best package would be. I saw one shop in California that includes a new hood in their package. What do you suppose a package would cost me? Is $7500 realistic?

Finally a question for the Florida guys. What is the best speedshop in the Southern half of the state, from Orlando to Miami? Who's the best at installing superchargers and whatever else is needed?

I know this is a long post that covers a lot of territory, but I'm getting ready to drop some significant cash and it's a one time deal so I want to get it perfect.

Thanks very much for your advice.

First congrats on the new ride and welcome to the brotherhood. RK
Motorsports has a hood that won't give away your stealth,
if you decide on the Maggie. Basically it's the same as stock, just raised
in the middle to clear the Maggie and reasonably priced.
Good luck with your decision, lots of good info here.

I went all out.....vortech supercharger, melrose headers, ported throttle body, complete magnaflow exhaust system, hi-flow cats, methanol injected, etc. etc.

I could'nt change my hood because I themed the car "To save and protect the Florida Panther" and had the hood airbrushed with a panther so I went with the Vortech A&A kit from California installed by AutoXTC in Clearwater and custom tuned by the Corvette Doctor in Clearwater.

I tend to agree with all the above posts - Procharger , A&A , and ECS all make a great centrifugal supercharger , and they are all as close to "bolt on " as youre going to get . I have the Procharger p1-sc , and bone stock otherwise it made 507 RWHP in my 07 . With your 08 LS3 , I would guess you would see about 40 HP more than that . Now I bumped up the power , but even then it was sick fast .

I reccomend you go for it If I was you living in hot Florida , I would lean tword the ECS kit , they seem to have the least heat issues out of the three , although I dont know a whole lot about the A&A kit .

Good luck

Thanks everyone for the input.

I've been on the phone with a couple of speedshops down here and it looks like a ProCharger DSC1 is the consensus recommendation. It'll set me back somewhere around $8500 to $9400 for the complete job.

That's a bit more than I hoped, but if you want to play you gotta pay.

That setup should produce around 520 RWHP, according to the ProCharger website.

Thanks for the compliments 1bdasvt!!

I would try and stick with reputable Corvette shops for an '08 LS3 buildup. There is HorsepowerSales down in Pompano Beach, RevXtreme in Tampa, and ourselves in the Orlando area. I would say we all have quite a bit of experience with forced induction C6's and can offer full installation and tuning services. If you have any questions give us a call at 407.869.7223.

Thanks to you all for the great advice.

I was given a headsup about ECS, who I wasn't familiar with, and then I found they had a sale going on their Paxton Novi 1200 kit with polished finish. $4995, complete with everything needed.

Then I checked with Horsepower Sales and they would install it with dyno and tune for about $2300.

So that gives me what I was hoping to find for a little less than my $7500 budget. I really couldn't spend any more, so some of the other choices fell off the table.

This blower on my LS3 ought to give me the kind of power I'm looking for.

So I ordered it this afternoon and it will ship when the final piece of their LS3 ductwork, which connects to the MAF, is ready in a week or so.

Thanks Z_Rocks.

I went to the NLP website and that's where I found they were now partners with Horsepower Sales. It should be the same quality, and Horsepower Sales already had a top reputation down here.

The closest NLP location is Orlando, so it's a little more practical to go somewhere that I can get to easily if I need help later.

Looking forward to getting the job done!

One more thing coolrod, the Maggie hood "does" make it obvious that somethings"under the hood",but Who cares,,, You started Your post off by saying that You wanted a streetrod,,well most streetrods I've seen are "dead giveaways"!!
Any luck yet with a blower choice?
