Default 8 rib surpentime belt

Has anyone with a sc/procharger changed to an 8 rib belt? Is it recommended or can there be any damage done to the engine in doing so?

Two reasons to go with an 8-rib set-up.
1. It's cool!
2. You're experiencing belt slip.

I'm installing a procharger. I was told I probably don't need the 8 rib. What problems did you experience with the 6 rib

How much more was the 8 rib?? Thanks in advance for your help guys!!

In my particular case their is some very minor belt slip in the higher RPMs (after 6500 rpm...C6 Z06). That is alot of Revs on that system plus this is with over 600 rwhp. Not too mention with a manual, it is a bit hard between shifts and more belt grip is always a good thing. It will cost you more $$$$ to do it later so just do it now. Your power delivery will be more predictable.

I ran procharged 434 small block in a riverboat. 767hp @ 6200 - took a 12 rib system to stop slip. Also used thicker brackets to stop flex and subsequent misalignment. Some of this was because jetboat was 1620 lbs and engine rev was violent. There were no issues with front crank bearing.

Did not do it yet, but probably $1200 parts + $800 labor. I really regret that i did not go with an 8-rib setup.
