Default Vortech Supercharger

Hi, I have seen rwhp on total stock C6 from 440 rwhp with a mild tune to 530 rwhp an aggressive tune. The C6 are all about 7-8 psi. I am just wondering what is the difference in turn that would account for about 90 rwhp. I am getting a Vortech supercharger installed on my C6 A6 which is all stock and is my daily driver. Just wondering the difference in tune and horsepower. I would like to get around 500 rwhp but do not want to hurt my engine too much. Would appreciate any input from smart people.

I would think that the diff. is Headers/racing cats/exhaust/meth. etc etc. I would shoot for not hurting it at all, but thats just mho...

The difference is the air fuel mix and timing. Conservative tunes put in a lot more fuel and less timing usually to keep fragile stock pistons happy. When an engine is forged (and / or running meth) the tuner can get more "aggresive" with added timing and a leaner air fuel mixture.

PS - with the proper tune you wont hurt anything. My 06Z has had a supercharger since Feb and its been running great, knock on wood

The tune is part of it, but if you are going to get over 500 rwhp out of the LS2, you'll need to install headers, a new cam, & new exhaust. Losing the cats would also help.

The simple fact is this, the LS2 CAN go well past 500 rwhp if you tear it apart and replace a lot of the internals (see the posts in here about the 1000 hp LS2 - the entire engine is being swapped out). I wasn't willing to go that route since I use mine more as a corner carver and touring car, not a drag racer. NOX, cams, etc. are all great if you want some ridiculous level of power that's only useful on the dragstrip - that much power is of no use in road racing or daily driving.

I love my C6 w/ the Vortech installed. Gobs of power, sub 4 second 0-60, and it runs great. But, if I installed headers, a cam, etc., it would be too loud to enjoy daily, and I would never tap all the power anyway. Besides, my setup is running low 11's at the strip anyway - what more do you need?

Thanks guys for all the answers. I think I will just stay with my stock vortech engine and be happy with 440-450 rwhp and be safe.

For about a week or two and then you will want more.

Doug Rippie Motorsports installed an A&A Vortech supercharger on my otherwise stock 06Z51 6mn. Since Doug Rippie's goal is to create fast cars with a long, long life span he does a conservative tune. With this conservatie tune I'm running a little over 506 RWHP and 480+ RWTQ. Took it on a trip out west (about 3600 miles) ran incredibly strong and no problems at all, except we burned out the cats.

Driving like a respectable person I got 32.6MPG on a 400 mile round trip.
The only problem I have with the votech is getting it to hook up in first and second gears.

there was a time I thought I would never need anymore then 450 rwhp and 421 rwtq. However, I like your approach because you'll learn how to drive with more power progresively, I would've killed myself if I would've gone from box stock to 500+ rwhp in one step

A well tuned FI motor will last a long time, I also see 30+ mpg in my C6Z when driven normally.

Thanks for the thread csun213.

I'm new to the C6 site, as my previous Vettes were C3&C4 hobbies. I've been away from the forum for a while, but am back and will be picking up my new hobby - 06-Z51-3LT-A6 convertible next week. I purchased it from a dealer near Pittsburgh, PA and will drive it back to Houston, TX. I still love road trips with my buds.

I ran a Wieand 6-71 supercharger on my C3 Vette, back in the days before centrifugals were made, and a turbocharger on another vehicle. All my cars were manual transmissions, so I'm a bit worried about supercharging an automatic and wonder how much torque the new A6 will take and still live a long life. I don't plan to tax it with real sticky tires, but do want to push it some when the mood strikes.

Do any of you have friends with supercharged automatics? What would be the maximum recommended boost for the automatic?

Lastly, I haven't decided on a particular kit. Right now, I'm leaning toward the A&A kit, though the Procharger was my first choice.

Yes, I saw it, which got me to looing at kits, other than the Procharger. If it's still around when I make my decision, it will be under stong consideration.

My Vortech Supercharger is being stalled by Vortech right now. I have a 2006 A6 and they said that at 8 psi, with a mild tune at 440-450 rwhp that I should not have any problem with stock engine. I don't have any headers on it yet and not sure about having it since the Vortech will pass smog in CA but headers will not.

Does anyone know about how much rwhp I will pick up with my setup? Thank

My dad posted above - but he's running 8 psi on an otherwise COMPLETELY stock C6 manual, with an extrememly conservative tune, and he's at 506 rwhp and more than 470 rwtq.

For an auto I bet you'll easily see 475 or 480 to the wheels (which is more than plenty enough).

Thanks since I am totally stock, I would be happy with anything above 450 rwhp at 8 psi.

Just wondering how many more rwhp headers will get me on stock LS2? Anyone know?

My 2006 A6 was dyno'd by Doug Rippie at 455.10 rwhp, which is significantly less than the numbers posted by jnel04. The Z51 setup does nothing for the numbers, so the difference is (a) his is MN6, while mine is an auto, and (b) mine was dyno'd at 91 degrees and 80% humidity. I'm thinking there are 20-30 more rwhp in my setup that just wasn't there because of the weather. I'll looking around for another dyno place to confirm this (and, of course, cooler weather). I'm also getting 33 mpg on the highway!

When DRM first dynoed the sc it was a humid 94 degree day and we came in at 477rwhp and 444rwtq. After our trip dynoed again on an 82degree day and came in at 506 rwhp and 472 rwtq. Only difference was the change in temp and humidity and we burned out the cats on the 3600 mile trip out west.

The dyno at DRM is, in my opinion, very accurate. They aren't the kind of company that boasts about how much peak power their cars are making. Randy sent an email to us that there are other dynos in MPLS that will read 20 rwhp higher on the same day.

Anyway: the humidity is definitely the HP robber in your case - in more agreeable weather I bet you'd be at 480+ rwhp

I haven't ever seen two chassis dynos race The dyno is just a tool in the shop that we use for tuning and to test things out. Our dyno has always been precise, not too accurate so most people say. We have a couple dyno days a year with different car clubs. The talk of the shop is how the numbers were lower then other dynos in the area.
Whatever the number, it's still how fast the car is. To the next stop light, down the straight, up the hill, from corner to corner.

MNvette, bring it by someday when it's not rainforst like air!!!

How many FI cars out there burn out cats? I would like to keep mine functional for annual inspections, so would remove them until needed.

You guys are a wealth of information.
