It's about 20 hours to remove and replace the motor down to the block. Depending on your shops rate say $90 per hour that's $1800
Then you need to have a machine shop/engine builder install the new rods and pistons. Prolly $800 on the high side. Prolly around $900 for new rods and pistons. Depends on what you get.
The rods are plenty strong, just put in forged pistons and have the machine shop do a light hone for the new rings and rebalance the assembly. Then put it back together..
Sorry, I made a wrong assumption. Figured that if GM spent so much time touting their T-rods they would have capped them off with fordged pistons. Like it would have added $100 bucks to the cost of the car. Guess the crank is a cast unit, too, huh ??

The Z06 has a forged crank but the weakest link is the cast pistons.

Forged pistons are my next step. However, I've been "staying safe" with FI on my Z since February I'm going to forged pistons for more power.
What else do you plan to have done while you put in forged pistons? Anything with the oil pump or oil system. I've read of a few stock motors having possible oil problems.

GM uses cast pistons instead of forged for other reasons that have more to do with warranty, and I believe emmissions as well. I know this for sure, it was not just to be on the cheap. Somebody here will catch this thread and chime in with the correct answer

No issues with the dry sump, going to leave it as is. WeaponsGradeTorque mentioned I should lower the compression, might do that as well. I'm not thinking anything too crazy, I want to get it to around 650 rwhp and 600 rwtq.

True, my 03 has a forged L92 and it goes through one quart of Mobil 1 every 1K miles.

My understanding is that the cast pistons also allow for cooler combustion and hence made more power in this particular case.
