I need help specifying and procuring a nitrous system for use on the following 2005 C6 Corvette Coupe. The car has been upgraded by MTI Houston with their Devilray 427 ci package – a sleeved LS2 based engine. Car has relatively high compression 12:1 and a mild cam 116LSA with 228/232 duration at 0.050 and 0.588/0.574 lift. It runs great on just 93 pump gas - no alcohol, no boosters. MTI reworked LS2 head flows 336 cfm intake 240 cfm exhaust at 0.650 lift.
The motor currently puts out 507 rwhp and 519 rwtq NA at SAE conditions. Dyno chart by MTI here:
I am looking for a nitrous system with the following features for street use with some occasional track use:
Clean professional installation and ability to install without permanent modification to engine or intake system. Be able to return to stock.
Multiple safety features to include low fuel pressure shutdown, RPM window switch, and wideband AFR shutdown. I have a lot of $$ in the motor and don’t want to risk damage.
Indication gauges for AFR, N2O bottle pressure positioned where the driver can monitor (pillar gauges or other)
Indicator lights for N2O system status armed, offline, etc.
Purge system and bottle blowdown kit
Remote bottle opener that engages when the system is armed
Automatic N2O bottle warmer
Low profile arming switches (open to location)
100-150 rwhp performance increase (probably won’t be looking for any more down the road)
Low well defined maintenance requirements
Stable bottle mounting such that the roof for the coupe will still be able to be stored in the back.
Things I am open to considering:
Open to either wet or dry system. I have a good NA tune on the engine (done by MTI) right now. I would rather not have to change my NA tune for normal driving around. If any tuning is needed when the system is on N2O, I will have to find a local tuner to manage.
Anything that improves the safety on the system.
Not sure if I need any fuel or injector modifications??
I either need to be able to install this system myself or if anyone has a contact for a good shop in the N. Kentucky or Cincinnati OH area – or within 200-300 miles.
Please contact me at twdunn@fuse.net if you want to take this discussion offline. I need a price quote on a system for the above.
DVL Ray,
Everything you mentioned, I have installed, plus a few extras.
You also need to choose Bottle size & material (i.e. I use a composite material bottle vs. aluminum) and bottle bracket. My system with ALL the bells and whistles, was @ $1500 through Nitro Dave, just FYI...[Good Luck!!!

If you could send me some details on your kit, I would appreciate it. Haven't received anything from others yet.

This is not a supporting vendor or sponsor of this fabulous site, whereas, Ed at MDMC is a supporter of this site. We would hope that those who consider buying products would also want to support this site.

Robert,
My intent is to use Ed for this project. He is somewhat local to me and seems to have a good handle on these installations. I am interested in Mr. Big's dry setup as I have been getting conflicting information from some of the "experts" about dry vs wet systems. I have heard from Carlos and he gets outstanding results with dry. There seems to be an "old school" bias against dry by some who feel that wet is safer. It seems to me that with the proper safeguards in place, that a dry system can be just as safe or safer and is possibly more versatile in that it allows the NA tune to stay untouched when not on the laughing gas. I am new to N2O and am trying to get a system that will meet my power requirements without harming my engine. I want a nuclear option that allows me to run around on my NA setup.
Given that I am already at 507/519 power levels, how would you recommend I control the shot to get maximum use of the available traction? Do I need to go to a more complicated progressive control, or 2 stage 75/75, or just a WOT switch for 150 shot?

Just seeking information to plan a great install.
Thanks!
I am also a big fan of dry and predict that this will in fact become the standard way of the future concerning FI cars and nitrous. I have had great results myself with dry. I like the multi stage over the progressive controllers, the reason is noid wear and tear. A single progressive pass can put as much wear/tear on the noids as a couple full seasons of running a multi stage. With that said, the noids do have better materials, concerning the seats, than ever before.
Hear is a long thread on the merits of wet vs dry, this should give some insight into the differences and why. Wet vs Dry Thread
Good luck on your venture.

Thanks Robert. What brand of stage controller do you recommend? At what points in the rpm band do you bring on the 1st and 2nd shots? What safeties do you put on your dry to avoid a lean condition? Also, whose solenoids do you recommend for best reliability? I want a bullet proof system. I appreciate all the help!

Scotty! I've got to have more power!!

I have my 1st stage coming on at 3200rpm in first gear, then second stage comes in at 4400 rpm in second gear. I have a 1st gear lock out on 2nd stage. Other than a window sw, about the only real safety item needed is a FPSS, which most kits include. Two solenoids I rec are the NX Stage 6 noids, and/or the CF Pro Noids. Our PRO Dry and Pro Wet kits come with the big CF noids. I upgraded my PRO Dry with the NX noids for looks and the side exit purge.
Here are a couple threads on the dry kits we offer if you choose to go with us. PRO Dry thread Ultimate PRO Dry Thread

MDMCZ06 is not responding anymore. I still need someone to put together a complete package for me. I can see why some find it difficult to get into the N2O game.

You can call the number in my sig, that'll be Scott, he can set you up. I opted out of the sales part and am strictly tech. Tell him Robert sent ya for a package deal.
