Bottom line is this, buyers do not have to accept less than they want as far as options, colors, miles, sellers don't have to accept a price less than they want to sell for.
So in the end either the seller lowers the price to attract the buyer or the buyer agrees to pay a little more or accept another color/less options they want or higher miles/less optioned car to get the price they want to pay

I tell you what....I have had a complete change of heart in less than a week.....
I was actively searching for a Z06 everyday. Then a member told me about the valve train problems. I have read thread after thread, post after post of problems associated with the valves and heads of the Z06 and total engine failure. Now honestly I wouldn't spend a penny on this car......they definitely are not made of gold like I thought OP...they are made of dynamite...
Much rather buy a LS3 with a correctly made engine, lower probability of failure, lower cost and just a bit slower instead of paying premium prices for a ticking time bomb...
Hell most 09s are like 50k ....wait a year and you can buy a 2014 base model stingray for only 5k more.

There is no comparing a Z06 to a LS3, I drove both, heads or not the cars are not even in the same category.
Once the heads are repaired you have an unmatched street car with the exception of a ZR1 or the new Z06 or CTS-V.
I drove a C5 manual a C6-LS3 manual and a Z06 and if you drive a Z06 you will change your mind.
Good Luck to you

Cor430vette: Maybe 10% (if that) of LS7's have that problem, but of course those that are affected by it make a lot of noise on the forums - and that's understandable. Who wouldn't be pissed? But you have to understand it's a very small slice of all LS7's out there. It's just the (relatively) small numbers create a large radar signature due to their outrage.
To draw a parallel, if you watch the news you would think crime is skyrocketing, when in reality nearly all categories of crime have decreased per FBI and law enforcement data.
Negative stuff gets sensationalized and blown out of proportion.
The C6Z ZO6 is an awesome machine. Buy one and have the heads done so you can relax and enjoy the car. Budget the cost of heads into your offer and if the offer is turned down move on to the next ZO6 for sale. Or, spend a little more upfront and get a 2012 or 2013 since the issue with the one GM supplier on the heads was fixed 2/2011.

Question, how much is it to have the valves and head repaired?

Just asking to see if my market in Houston is too overpriced...

I am looking for a heads, cam car in the beginning. But it seems everyone wants to add the full cost of the heads, cam, install to the price that the car should be sold for, which makes no sense. But I am looking for a 06-07, maybe 08 if a decent price is found, have seen a couple around me 2lz for 40k or less with less then 50k miles. Me personally am looking to make a deal in the 35k range, or 40k with heads, cam done already. I plan on heads, cam, intake pretty much right away. Cant have my four cyl. make more power then a v8 haha.

Houston usually has some of the lowest car prices in Texas, when my buddy was shopping Cobras they were consistently lower out that way. Dallas does have some Corvette specialty places though.

Is that a fact? 90% do not have the problem? I would really like to buy one, but honestly the reliability issue is a major concern. The car already is not on sale at these prices and to throw another cost on top of that....you might as well buy a base C7s for upper 50s. For example the 2009 to 2010 Z06 are around 50k+ throw fixing the heads on it and you got a older model C6 z06, that has had internal engine repair (always potential for problems with that). So why not buy a base model C7....?? I have found them upper 50s and their performance numbers look close to equivalent to the C6, their interior is better, brand new, better technology... ...doesn't make sense buying a Z06 ...depending on the head repair and initial cost.
Question, how much is it to have the valves and head repaired?

I have a couple of quotes from forum shops - both come in around 6.5k for the job i wanted. Cam, heads (replaced), tune etc. I need to look at the full quote again.
But this should ball park the car at 550-560whp which could be right at the 650hp flywheel rating the C7 Z06 is getting.
Something to think about

But with the c7z06 you have more headroom for power, an updated interior, warranty, auto trans option, and updated styling. It's not like it's a slam dunk to get a c6z over the c7z.

The other day just cruising a new c7 wanted to play and my old Z06 Katech cam stock heads played along. C7 had a long ride home wondering how he got crushed. I doubt he was thinking how comfy he was. This car is one bad *** ride.

The 08s were out west somewhere (I believe one was in Colorado?) and both got right down to $40k asking price before they sold. Neither was over 30k miles IIRC correctly, and one had heads.
I try not to look anymore because I'm too deep in my C5 right now and my wife is working on her degree, but in two years when she finishes, I'd like to hit the ground hard looking for a 2011+ Z07 or ZR1 (if not an ACR or TA, depending on how things go).

Price is determined by the seller and buyer.
The market will always determine what something is worth to someone or how bad the owner wants to sell it.
I bet half the people on this forum do not want a modded or tracked/raced car and half probably do not care.
These cars are specific the buyer in a lot of ways, color, miles, options are all deal breakers for some as is repaired engines and accidents or paint work.
I saw prices all over the place and from dealers to private parties there was $6K-$10K swings depending on the situation.
There was a great Silver one here for $39,900 but I did not want silver, there was also a red on here with -15K miles for $43K or so, but again I didn't want red.
I also passed on a few really nice black ones because I didn't want black.
I could have gotten many for a good price but they just were not what I wanted so I paid a little bit more to get what I wanted and since I plan on never selling it the extra few $$$$ spent was a non issue to get what I really wanted.

Damn, I was about to list mine for sale and then saw this thread. My title was going to be "611rwhp Z06 for sale but no one wants to give up their gold..." lol. Hang in there guys the right one at the right price will come around like mine did. Keep up the searching they are a blast to drive. Especially modded. This thing makes my 400hp 2011 Mustang feel like a turd lol
