C5Zs are a perfect example of this. They've been stuck at around 20k~ for years and I don't see anything in the immediate future to change that. The C6Z will eventually find a sweet spot and just settle there for an extended period just like it settled at 40k for the past 3 years. It wasn't until the past few months did it budge to mid-high 30s. I don't think these cars are worth what some people are asking for it, but the market will dictate its true value. Not sure where it'll settle but it'll find a place in due time.

have a 2006 base with 30k miles and an ask of 24k. that's not much different than the ask would be on a similar mile 2004 z06. when c6's take their hit with the release of the c7 i would be surprised if they didn't fall a bit more and further pressure the c5z. the 01 driver cars with 60-70k have already been selling around that 15 mark

Just be patient, and the right deal will come along. There was a silver 07 with 53k that sold for $36k here in Houston about a month ago. That mileage is a little higher than you're looking for, but sub-$40k is attainable (even for an 08) if you don't get in a hurry... Happy hunting!

I've got my eye on several C6Z's in my area, but I'm just waiting for the January 13th C7 announcement to see what happens to the prices. I would love to find an '08 Z06 for 40k even. They're getting close to that point, but not all the way there yet. There are plenty of them for 45k in my area. I think by February I will be able to grab one for 40k.

I found a DS0M 2006 Z at a dealer with 22k miles. They asked 39.9k. I offered 37k and was flat out refused. I asked to meet in the middle at 38.4k and same thing. I figured its winter, end of year, car is orange so it only appeals to some people and they would not budge a dollar on price.

I'm working out a deal on one a couple hours from me. 08 blk/blk 2lz with 19k miles. I'm getting it for 42k. Cars are out there just have to look and be patient.

Interestingly, the $55-60K range for 2010's and 2011's seems to have a pretty high turn over rate - specifically with the Z07 and carbon fiber packages.

There's one on AutoTrader with a roll cage (same car?) - I figured for sure there would be room... but I keep seeing the same cars listed over and over again so it's a matter of time. $40K seems to be the psychological window for these cars, but it can't hold up.

The most reasonable way to evaluate your used car's value is to take it to CarMax for a free appraisal. That is a very accurate system that knows what they are currently selling for.
I would happily pay 10-15% over the documented CarMax value in a private party sale. CarMax marks them up closer to 20-25% but then they VERY thoroughly check the car out and you really get something for that.
From my perspective once the C7 comes out, and you can buy a new car, w/ the new body style, w/ a new warranty, w/ new car interest rates, w/ notably improved mpg, w/ no worn parts on the car at all, a MUCH nicer interior than any C6 will ever have, lighterweight, no known engine issues aka LS7 head issues, 7 Speed tranny, and new integration technology...well once you can buy that car for $65K the used C6Z values could suffer.

but in general I agree with you - the new model will drive prices down further. The "base" C7 should be very close to Z06 performance specs, so it will boil down to style. But a new car can often be more affordable than used as you referenced: interest rates and lender requirements are definitely slanted towards buying new. IMHO, it will take a while as many of these used cars continue to sit, eat up floor space (or owners keep making payments through the winter) before people realize things have changed for the worse.
I figure late summer/fall of next year will be about how long it takes for pricing to drop to realistic levels on these cars (in any decent volume).

They made about 25,000 from 2006 to 2009. In 2010 production dropped to 510. For those wanting to keep one, might as well go with fully optioned and low production numbers....
