First let me say hi, as I am a brand new member on this forum. Also, I apologize if this is the wrong place for this post.
I have owned various sports cars for years, but never a Vette. 2 years ago I sold my highly modded WS6 in preparation for buying a Vette.
Now..that time has finally come to where I am ready to pull the trigger. I am currently looking at purchasing an '06 or '07 Vette.
My question is this, can someone give me a basic description of the option packages, or point me to a thread on this forum if it has already been discussed?
1SB was the "Preferred Equipment Package" of the 2005 Corvette, whereas 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, etc. is now called the 3LT.
Both have the same equipment... HUD (Heads up Display), the Bose speaker system, NAV I think (it may be optional), Power Seats too? May be something else.
Z51 is the performance package that can be added onto a Corvette. It includes larger cross-drilled rotors, "performance tuned tires", different stabilizer bars, springs, shocks, gear ratios, and is all in all a completely different driving experience than driving a non-Z51 coupe (as most say).
In my opinion, you should probably try to find a car with the 3LT package. It will be more comfortable and will be an easier sell in the future.
If price is about the same, I would get 2006+ since they did have some minor improvements like the stronger rear end, the 6 speed paddle shifter, etc.
Last, take your time looking for the right car. There are lots of C6 out there and will probably be more when the 2010 with launch control hit the market. The prices are all over the place because most sellers can't accept that their car have dropped so much in value and is still holding to their dream. I would just wait until a car have been on the market for a few week, then make an offer.
Good luck to your purchase, you will love the car and all the Corvette friends you will meet.
I was in your shoes just a short while ago. Trying to decipher the options I wanted or needed. I found this site that helped me alot. You can print out the 2006 and 2007 Order Guide, Prices, RPO Codes with a nice description of what each option package contains, and MSRP costs of every factory option available.
Great resource for my shopping. www.c6registry.com/facts/2007.htm www.c6registry.com/facts/2006.htm
I just picked up my 2007 Convertible with 3LT Option Package, CM7 Power Top, F55 Magnetic Selective Ride Control, MYC Automatic, QX3 Chrome Wheels, and a couple other goodies.
I agree with prior poster regarding the 3LT package being one that will be most desireable.
Also, just spending some time in this forum was a huge help. Loaded with great information on everything Corvette.
I agree with taking my time as I have been browsing for a while now, but have just now decided to buy.
I have narrowed it down to some specifics:
-M6 (a must)
-the Z51 package
-Yellow or Black
-prefer the package that includes heated seats, homelink, keyless start (could live without for the right deal)
Pricing is the other problem. I am looking all over including ebay, autotrader.com, cars.com, vehix.com, on here, other used vette sites, etc. and prices are all over the board. Some are listed at blue book, some above, very few below. Seems like people that are in a situation where they MUST sell (and I feel for them), still won't budge on prices.
I'm going to go through what you're presently going through in Feb '10. I have been looking all over and you're right, prices are all over the place. 6 months from now I'll be looking and my requirements are:
If I were buying used, I would want the extended GMPP warranty. Corvettes are expensive to repair and aren't known to be the most reliable. However, they are the best car for the $$$. Personally, I have had no problems with mine but know of others, especially the C5 generation whereby shop time was a regular occurrence. The warranty can't hurt. Also, track cars could be problematic. Search the seller's threads for their use. Beware of new members who show up to sell a car from overseas ;-).
