Hello, I am a new member to this forum. I am in the market for a Corvette and I need some advise. I would like to consider a new 2009 Corvette well equipped and a certified 2008 Z06 will mileage not greater than ~6000. I plan to drive around ~3000 miles a year and will be keeping the car for a while. Can you offer your experience and opinion on pros and cons for both models. This is basically a recreational fun car.
I have an 03' C5 Convertible and am in the market for a Z06 that will be used more for trips and fun then for shows. My C5 is my show car, and I am looking for an 07 or 08 Z06 in LeMans Blue, Atomic Orange or Crystal Red (Will Cooksey edition).
The regular corvette's ride is quieter and softer and this makes it an easy daily driver. It has more ground clearence. The engine is probably more reliable and the top comes off. Auto trans option and convertible option.
The Z06 is better looking, lighter, stiffer, faster, all the high tech features, and more suitable for the track.
The real questions IMHO is 2009 Z06 or 2010 Grandsport Corvette? The GS is basically Z06 lite.

I suppose that is what I meant by "probably"? Of course, GM was buying back Z06 engines to figure out while they were failing a while back. I do not recall them doing this on the regular corvette.
It really depends on what you want. If you want a removable targa top or a convertable then the regular C6 coupe is the way to go, also if you want auto tranny with paddle shifters then the regular C6 is the the way to go. If you want either of those things then get the regular C6. Dont get too caught up in the power the Z06 makes because the LS3 in the regular C6 coupes are no slouch. Guys are making 500rwhp with just full exhaust and a cam. Now if you dont care about auto tranny or having the top off then the Z06 is the car for you. They offer a more complete package with better brakes, good suspension, better manual tranny and better looks and more light weight car too.

Dude, do have any idea WTF you're talking about?
There was no such GM buy back for the LS7's...
I hate to see the OP mislead by ridiculous posts.
Truely, not because I own one but the Z is a true, all American, kick ass supercar!!! Nothing more, nothing less, period.
I think you're sadly mistaken sir with this buy back crap and either you're misinformed, a jealous poser or a little touched...
drive both and you'll have an easy decision, if the z06 is for you, you'll know it. The person I bought mine from is one of the rare people who I've met who wanted a base c6 back, but honestly I think he or his wide were scared of the car.

Like I said if you want to take the top off or convertable or automatic tranny then the regular C6 coupe is what you want. If those things dont matter then get the Z06.

Damb there are some self assured folks on this forum. Too bad some of them don't look before they leap.
Because you are sooo knowledgeable about Z06's maybe you could explain #PIP4132B: Chevrolet Corvette LS7 Engine Repairs or Replacements. If you bother to research something before being critical of another forum member you would know that in 2008 GM was trying to gain product knowledge on the "major engine failures with the LS-7" and was offering to exchange them for free motors so they could figure out why they were failing. This is what I call a "buy back".
Here are some links to a GM description of the program.
Lastly, I love the Z06 but the engine issues have been real. Real enough for GM to pay people to flatbed their cars to Bowling Green and give them brand new motors.
Go on jeff hardy corvettes & save yourself about 18 grand & buy an 08 Z06 that are still sitting on dealer lots, Or save about 25 grand & buy a used low miles 08.

^^^This statement was very misleading...

^^^ This one is absoulutely true but it certainly is NOT a buyback program.
This is just a warranty replacement that's performed at the Bowling Green plant under supervision of a team of engineers.
I think this is a good thing to collecting accurate data but at the end of the day it's just a warranty replacement which they will all have, if warranted, no matter if your car is brought to BG or not.
I apologize for taking your first post so personally, it just sounded bad without all the specifics.
