Default No 2008 Corvette ?

in discussion with a relative who is a high level supplier of robotic equipment to GM he revealed that only the "Camaro" will receive funding for new line equipment and that the robotic/line equipment for the Corvette would receive maintenance only with the possibilty that there would be NO 2008 MODEL. similar to what has happened in the past when the economy and sales slowed. major changes to the Corvette will wait until late 2008 as a 2009 model and likely will have significant price increases.

That has to be one of the biggest stories I've heard on this forum yet.

2008 will be the 4th year of the current C6 model run...there will be no major changes for 2008 that would require retooling or new robotics.. the robots that made your 2005-07's will be able to make 2008's just fine... Of course the Camaro needs new line equipment because its a totally new car for GM...

another example of a little knowledge causing

Why would you have to do anything to the line except minor repairs...it's already building the cars. If they don't make any major, and I mean really major like making the C7, then there's no reason that there won't be a 2008.

I guess they'll just shut down the entire factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky?

I wonder what those robots will do in Bowling Green while your relative sells robotic equipment to the Camaro plant in Canada?

Nothing personal, but this is a not a very savvy person, or you got the story a bit wrong and did some interpretation.

He is partially right. GM is retooling one of the Oshawa plants after this MY to switch from the W chassis to the Zeta, which the Camaro will be based on a version of. The 2009 model w/ the significant price increase he mentions MIGHT be a reference to the BlueDevil.

The BG plants' bots have been there for years and aren't going anywhere.

Dude - why would they receive anything OTHER THAN "maintenance only" ? It's the same frik'in model.

Did your relative supply the robot that jumped off the bridge?
