How many "buyers" actually travel more than 200 miles to purchase a car ? I think very few. How many "buyers" have the ability to pay cash or write a check when the oportunity appears, I think very few. There is a lot of polite conversation and lots of research by forum members who scan the available want ads and report on "day dream" buying opportunitys but how many buyers drive a 1000 miles and have the ability to take the time to travel, inspect and actually purchase this buying opportunity, I suspect very few. Perhaps we should have a new forum category where members who have actually purchased cars scan their documents and verify that its not just "polite conversation". I think thats where the rubber meets the road.

I must be an exception to the rule.

I found that shipping a vehicle isnt a "big deal" nor costly if you find a good shipping company.

Also given the extent of CF's reach around the world. Almost any car, anywhere, can be inspected by a fellow forum member or sponsored tuner/vendor. Now whether or not you care to entrust someone in your 30,000-70,000 purchase is another story.

I don't feel distance is TOO much of a factor as I am currently working a deal on a car 16 hours away from me. It will be dropped off at a forum tuner for a few modifications and then shipped to my address.

Hell - it worked out even better buying a vehicle near a CF vendor to have a bit of work done while also checking the quality.

I agree though this won't apply for all members

I don't believe you are an exception. I think some people rush into these without doing their research and then have to find ways to feel better about over paying. To each his one, but I won't be convinced high 30's are reasonable on C5's when the evidence all around me suggests otherwise.

When disagreements on price come up I've noticed people always tend to question the "buying" abilities of the parties who are defending buying based on market value. Just because I could afford to overpay for something doesn't mean I am going to. In fact, I don't believe it is a good practice to buy the most expensive car you can afford period...

My experience in visiting a store much like the Corvette Palace is that once you start asking about option codes, mention the colors by name etc. they realize you've done your homework and lose interest in helping you. Why you ask? Because they realize you aren't going to pay those prices as an informed buyer. Just my opinion.

You don't exactly have to scour the globe to find real nice low mileage ones in high 20's, low 30's in the same condition and options as some of those linked. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is whether you are happy with your car and deal.

Sure do, these particular ones are stock but I agree with you.

Lee, are you affiliated with that place? My comment was a general statement and not a judgment on Corvette Palace. I agree they have some fine cars, if you don't want to look much and just stumble onto the cream of the crop and aren't as concerned about price they seem like a great resource.

The great thing is there is a medium of purchase out there for everyone.

I am looking, can pay cash, and have already traveled from NJ to Miami for a car in the past.

I have travelled as well, but I would have to say most people do not.

Now you have to pay for fees, shipping, on the east coast its usually 500-1000 and east to west is real expensive. Now you can add for tires, brakes over 20k, plus a good clean. Its usually between 1000-2000.

Myself been looking at low mileage C5's for around 30K so thought

not much now....

Did see a C6 with 55K mileage for $32,000 nearby but it sold so

It's all a mind trick...We read from left to right...If the first number we see is 1 in something priced as 1.99 rather than 2.00, the 1 is more favorable.

So my C6 has 52k miles on it, every option except the glass top (though I removed the polished wheels for powdercoated black ones).

Doesn't smell "new" inside, but doesn't smell bad either, just kind of neutral, regular. Outside looks like a 52k mile DD car, rock chips up front and just general wear and tear on the paint.

Could I still make the 30k price-point?

Heck, you should be trying to sell it for more than you bought new. If you read some of these threads long enough you'll believe it!

(Just kidding, not a comment on your price)

I had a dealership call me today and this was the conversation -

"we have some new 2006 that we are HEAVILY discounting. A 3LT w/ no nav and no other options for only 49,995"

" Arent your 2007 base models selling for 10.000 less?"

"Sure but these are 2006 models - they MUST GO!"

"Ok so are you going to lower the price"

"Sir if you are going to modify your car (I told him I wanted something I could mod heavily i.e. a used car) you should buy a brand new one that way you know no one has beaten it up"

"Yeah buy a new one for the warranty so I can tear the motor apart"

He didnt care for my attitude much
