Default Why should I purchase a GMPP now?

I am often times asked why one should purchase the GM Protection Plan before the base warranty expires so I thought it would be beneficial to all if I published a list of some of the benefits.

* The price increases annually so waiting will without a doubt cost more.
* The price increases as miles accumulate.
* GMPP is honored at all GM dealerships versus the base warranty which is only honored at Chevrolet dealerships.
* GMPP covers a rental car if your vehicle needs 2.0 labor hours or more of repair versus the base warranty which only covers a rental if your car is disabled, in the dealership all day and then overnight.
* GMPP covers items that break or wear out versus the base warranty which only covers items that fail due to a quality or workmanship issue.

Also the GMPP has to be purchased before the base 36/36 runs out.

Why would GMPP a better deal (if so) than a company like Warranty Direct?

I was going to say GM won't go out of business, but..... all of the other warranty companies come and go and leave people high and dry.

I've heard so many good things about Warranty Direct and they certainly have been around a long time, I was hoping for a comparison answer. My impression now is that WD cost less and covers more and for longer, but I don't know how it stacks up against GM for the total picture. I'm not worried about GM being around but would be concerned that some kind of restructuring would discharge warranty obligations. After seeing so many workers have their pensions flushed or watered down you don't know what could happen down the road in any financial committment when a company gets in trouble. Especially waiting to see if they screw their own worker's pensions, that, for me, would be the handwriting on the wall. New car and extended warranty GM style would be a no-no.

Default How do I know?

Ken,
I am looking to purchase a 2004 Comm Ed vert out of state. How do I know if I can still buy a GMPP? According to CarFax, the warranty expires in August. Is there a way to check with Chevrolet?

Hello!

I am sorry that I didn't get back to this post earlier.

First, WD does not cover more than GM. GM covers everything except a small list of maintenance and wearable items.

I confident that GM will be in business to take care of all our customers. Hundreds of service contract companies have gone broke. Finally, I am confident that dealers will honor the GM plan when you have a claim. Many dealers won't honor 3rd party plans because: 1) We have a difficult time getting paid, 2) Many items are not covered including diagnostics and wear/tear, 3) They won't pay a fair price for parts and labor, 4) They often require used or aftermarket parts.

If you are unsure of whether or not your car is eligible, please call Dennis Fichtner here at the dealership toll free 800-234-5284 or email him at: gmpp@fichtnerchevrolet.com

Have a great day!
Ken Fichtner
