When I go to build a Z06 at gmcanada.com, the price comes to about $103,000 CDN, but when I build it on the US site, it comes out to $70,940. The difference or exchange rate is 1.452 converting from US to Canadian pricing, but the exchange rate between both dollars is roughly 1.2
Using the 1.2 by my reasoning the price should come out to $85,128 CDN. Why is this? Does it have to do with customs and delivery? Or is it possible to just fly down to a dealer and purchase it for $70,940 US pre-tax and not worry about paying somekind of duties and drive it back? Also note I'm not 100% sure about the MSRP's accuracy for both the Canadian and US site quotes. And yes...I am fully aware of the gouging thats going on
That's funnier'n heck. Three years ago, when a Canadian Dollar was only worth 64 cents US, there was a big business bringing the Canadian products south. Problem is, selling a US Chevy to a Canuk for export is a big no no.

False
Proper import, if it is a used vehicle, is not an issue. Pay the $$ and it is done.

"Used" is the operative word here. The problem is warranty - I don't think GM will honor the warranty if the car has less than "X" miles - sorry, but I don't remember what the "X" is - maybe 10K.
False...GST has nothing to do with it and is added to the Canadian MSRP. The reason is that GM views the Canadian market separately and believes the cars will sell for the higher price here, so that is why the Canadian price is so high. Same as Porsche and many other marques. Pisses me off, but that's just the way it is.
Car must be 6 months old AND have 7,500 miles on it before being imported into Canada or GM will not honor the warranty. Well worth it to wait for a gently used Z06.

How can GST have nothing to do with it? The GST alone is 7% = ~$5,000 US = $5,900 right off the top on a new Z06 + air conditioner excise tax + import fees or $2-300. This is a part of why the Canadian MSRP is higher like I said.
GM isn't footballing the Vette market in Canada at all. It is the government special requirements and fees that drive the cost up. There is no duty on the US cars but there certainly is GST.
After all of that then the normal provencial taxes kick in just like in the states .... Sales tax.

The GST is added on top of the MSRP and paid by the buyer, not before, so GST has nothing to do with the higher MSRP in Canada. A/C tax is also paid on top of MSRP, there are no RIV import fees on new vehicles imported by GM. On private sales imported into Canada you are correct that GST is payable at the border. The original point the poster is making is that the Canadian MSRP is much higher than the US MSRP - GST has nothing to do with the comparison. Now if we were comparing out the door costs in both countries, I would agree.
The corvette we are looking at buying in the states would be worth over 50k up here, compared to 42 if we buy it down there(thats all CAD). Damn good savings, plus a lot more lower milers down in thestates thanks to the 'snow birds'
