Default My drag strip experience this past Saturday

Hi all,
My first time to take my 2012 zr1 to the drag strip. My car does not have any mods, I am running ps2 tires. I did awful i had better times with my 1995 ZR1. I could not go thru the gears with out breaking loose. I know i will need to change tires in order to curb my problem and harness the torque.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks A lot,
Nelson007

Mr Gizmo,
I ran between 102 to 124 the 124mph I ran a 13.189 which was the best of the day. I got tired of breaking loose I shifted from 1st to 3rd and got my best time.
Forgot to mention the 95 ZR1 times. I think i was getting 125- 129 and in 11 to 12's
Thanks for any advice because i sure need it.

Thanks Whatcop,
I knew i needed to change the tires but wasn't sure what to get.
Can you tell where i can buy these wheels and tires?
By the way a man at the drags had told me to be very careful when changing the wheels,he though there was a cover of some type to cover the rotor when changing a tire.
Thanks,
Nelson007

Nelson, that gentleman is talking about the styrofoam rotor protectors (that should have been given to you by the seller)
needed to protect the carbon ceramic rotors from contact with the wheel during removal/replacement. A dealer can get
them for you...

see link: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...tart=0&ndsp=17

If the CC rotors get damaged/chipped, they need to be replaced and are quite expensive, even from "discount" suppliers.

Thanks Gary I will have to buy a pair. I was first owner but the car was a preproduction one. Did not get one with the car.

I've swapped wheels countless times without them. Just be careful. The ccws can be bought directly from ccw. Call them and ask for john. He's the owner and he will get you what you need.

How old are the PS2s that you are running? It sounds like you have some old tires or the dragstrip was just very slick/ poorly prepped. I have run on PS2s many times without any where near the problems you were having. Granted I ususally run at a track with good prep.

Thanks Whatcop,
When i opened ccw web site last night and saw all the different wheels they offered, i was going to ask you for a contact. With the Mickey Thompson titles they only showed one with your specs.
Thanks Again,
Nelson007

Not sure of the age. They were on the car when I picked it up, had around 3k miles on them? How do you decipher the date code on the tire?
Have you ever run at Mason Dixon?
Thanks,
Nelson

I just noticed that your car was a '12 so the tires should not be that old, 3 years at most. The date code is usually build week and then year. I have not run Mason Dixon, only MIR, VMP, and Richmond with the ZR1.

What tire pressure were you running and did you do any burnout? I usually drop them down to ~27 psi and do a short burnout.

I used to run my 95 at Mason Dixon years ago too. I would never even attempt to run a ZR1 on stock tires at that track, Im very hesitant to take mine there on the DR's. It is only an hour and 20 min away from me, and mir is over double the drive time. But well worth it!

They can fragment. Post a thread up with a pic of the rotor.

The first 6 runs i set the air for 25. Than checked the air afterwards and it went up to 27. I than adjusted the air to 22. I don't think it made much of a difference. I am going to order a set of wheels from ccw and get the tires Whatcop recommended. Hopefully that should solve my problem. What surprised me the most was the launch control did not work well on the strip but works great on the regular state roads
Thanks,
Nelson007
