How much better is a 09 Zr1 than a 08 Z06?
Hey guys- I currenty have an 08Z 30k miles- Its runs and drives perfect- and even loses traction at 60mph in second gear.
I have an opportunity to get a 09 CG ZR1 20k miles, for approx my car plus 29k.
Would that be worth it in your opinions?
I know its an awesome car, but so is the Z06. Its almost twice the $ though.

Asking if it is worth your car plus 29k is only a decision you can make.you should drive it and see. The MSRC will be smoother than your current car on rough roads. The car might feel a little more solid. If you a not tracking the power will be better but not significant enough on surface streets below 80 mph. It is more refined but not $29k worth.
All this said I went from 2007 lmb Z06 to 2009 CG ZR1 and have not looked back at all. The Z06 was a great car, but the ZR is a little better in every way.

The other side is this - Tires are more money, oil changes are more money, uses a lot more fuel, front splitter is expensive(parking blocks). Insurance? Not worth 30k to me, rather spend 15 on the Z06 for power and suspension.

the zr1 is simply "more"... interestingly enough to this day i feel the zr1 seems less harsh on the road...
Ok so you know how the z06 fun spot is like 5-7k where the motor just really scream? take that but from 3-4500 rpms in the zr1... then continue it until the rev limiter...
buy the car because you also enjoy and understand what it is and what it represent, but if you are looking for more power and do not care about what the zr1 is then mod the z06

To some $29k isn't much and to others, it's quite a bit of coin. You need to drive it and decide. The ZR1 is absolutely more car in many ways, but a C6 Z06 is great car too.
Drive and decide.
Drive and decide.

1. .1 model year newer Vette (ZR1) with 10K less miles-$7,000
2. .638 HP LS9 --------------------------------------------- $5,000
3. .carbon ceramic brembos -------------------------------$8,000
4. .magnetic selective ride control -------------------------$3,000
5. .exposed/cleared carbon --------------------------------$2,500
6. .19/20 wheels with michelin PS2 ZPs ------------------$2,000
7. .dual power seats with lumbar adjustments------------$1,500
8. .3ZR equipment group (leather dash armrests
....and console lid), over 1LZ or 2LZ-----------------------$2,000
9. .power hatch assist ----------------------------------------$200
10. bluetooth --------------------------------------------------$50
11. exhaust tone ---------------------------------------------$750
***********************total************ *****$32,000
If the above list makes sense to you, more or less, then buy it..."I would".
Of course you could try to knock off a couple more grand, but all in all not a bad deal at all IMO.

I went from a 08 Z06 to a 09 ZR1. I thought is was quite bit more money than I wanted to spend, but I did it anyway. Glad I did. I really liked the Z06 except for the valves/guides issue. You have to make that decision. Good luck.

The Z06 is a great car, as many here will attest to. The ZR1 is at another level, which you will realize the first time you stomp on the gas. If the extra money is not an issue, do it. You won't be sorry.

This played a major roll in my decision making too. Not that it can't be fixed I guess, but my buddy has had his done twice now in 44k miles.
Whereas the ZR1 isn't known for any big problems that I could find, other than brake rotor balance, which is not going to leave you on the side of the road.

This is certainly a consideration, and one that I contemplated before selling my Z06 to buy my ZR1.
I should have added this to the itemized list I created above...
12. Questionable LS7 reliability (blown engine or rework/replace heads????)-----$3,000-$15,000
This brings the total allowance of switching to a one model year newer ZR1 with 10,000 less miles to $35K-$47K.
Of course the above is just my opinion that is probably shared by many other forum members as well.

Why the oil change is more expensive with the ZR1 ?

went from a 2007 Z06 to a 2009 ZR1 and in my opinion it is a no brainer.
It is just that much more of everything and in my opinion is even tamer in general driving.

Didn't the dry sump grow a quart or two between '08 and '09? That's another $8 or so of oil each change so that is a significant monetary factor that needs to be considered.
