Default Few basic ZR1 questions

So I just sold my 06Z06 and was thinking at first I'd want a CTSV but now I'm thinking I'd miss the corvette feel so the ZR1 would be an obvious upgrade. But I have a few questions first

1. How well do the stock tires hook in a straight line, like will 2nd hook specially on fast shifts?

2. How many street miles have most people got out of the stock rotors/pads?

3. Overall how reliable are the cars?

I'd be looking at a 2009-2010 in the 75k and under range

Also would stock injectors be fine with say ported blower/snout/TB, pulley, filter, 160 T-Stat, and tune? Would you add any mods to that list for just a weekend toy with the 1-2times a year trip to the 1/2 mile roll race events. Maybe a H/E?

Port the stock snout and add a 2.6" upper pulley to the car and enjoy it. If you add headers then you can run a 2.35" upper (since they drop boost) but you will need bigger injectors for that setup. I did an 09' ZR1 with 2.6 pulley, ported snout, tune, and an Attack Blue filter in the stock airbox and picked up 75rwhp over stock dyno numbers.

I have a 12' C6 and a 14' CTS-V myself for my two cars love them both, but boost is a lot of fun

So would the ported blower just be overkill for just doing pulley, Tstat, filter and tune?

Who offers the best ported snout and should I do the TB too?

1. Decent but it's about 540-550 to the wheels so quick shifts or slamming the gas will break loose. Better tires = better results.

2. I have 24k miles and 5 de events and have plenty of pad and rotor left. Street only might get 100 k miles. Tires on the other hand don't last.

3. No problems yet. Motor seems much more reliable than my old ls7

Have you used the cup tires? If so anyone know how long those typically last? I was thinking either the Cup tires or buying 19" replicas then putting NT05Rs on them if cup tires don't last very long.

That's good news about the rotors tho

cup tires probably less than 8000 street mile, PS2 last way longer than the firestones. I have 11k miles and one week end DE and still have 2/4 thread left on my PS2. They are much much better than the firestones on the z0 were.

8k miles wouldn't be that bad since it's just a weekend car would take a while to do 8k miles. But I know NT05Rs with 19" reps are around the same price and last atleast 5k miles more

Any idea on a price he charges? Also do people just port the stock TB or do people just port the LS2/3/7 TB?

The stock tires usually do a pretty good job in 2nd gear if they are in decent shape as long as it isn't cold out.

If you're going to bump the boost you might consider a heat exchanger.

I was thinking about trying the sport cups to increase available traction for weekend/roll on type conditions, but i've also read a few reports from guys that tried this and the feeling that was that it didn't really help much. This was due to the tires not getting warm enough from street driving conditions to allow them to shine over the PS2s. However, a huge decrease in tire life was noted by all users compared to the PS2. IDK what to think about that, but at this point reading that has been enough to make me hold off on trying the cups for now.

This is my second ZR1 and the clutch has acted funny in both of them. They have both exhibited behavior that I believe would not be considered normal my the majority of ZR1 owners. The 2009 I had pullies/headers/tune on it and the pedal would drop during WOT acceleration, even in a single gear without any shifts. Just a long 4th gear pull would be enough to do it. Had to be bled every 2-3 times the car was used or the fluid would be super dirty. There's been 1-2 other guys on here where the car was doing the exact same thing. Clutch looked ok on inspection, so much like the Z06, when this problem appears no definitive answer can be found sometimes, and for some reason what usually fixes/helps the problem on most cars doesn't do a thing on a few of them.

Current 2011 vehicle the clutch in this one chatters more than most of them. Gets better with a few hard shifts but comes back shortly after that. This seems to be the exact opposite of what most guys on here describe...most people here say that their car will chatter a little bit after racing but then it smooths out after a little bit of city driving. also with the right combination of certain takeoff conditions, just the right amount of clutch engagement and throttle it will chatter/shudder so bad for a brief second that it seriously feels like the car is wheelhopping...not a hard takeoff either. Really weird. Occasionally the clutch will also make a faint squealing sound during takeoff. I haven't bothered taking it in yet since most of the time it seems ok. I'll look into it this winter. This one also has an intermittent clunk from the rear of the car that I have failed to identify despite several attempts.

Ya I had been seeing the cups need to be warmed up which would be annoying. Which heat exchanger do you guys suggest besides the Katech one?

The clutch thing you had in both your ZR1s would be very frustrating hope that wouldn't be a problem I'd have.

Yes ported blower is a bigger expense for a smaller gain even though it is a good mod to do. If you were doing headers and 2.35 upper pulley then I would port everything then along with bigger injectors. I use Jeremy at Fasterproms for all the ZR1 and CTS-V port work that I need.

You talking about blower cores? No I don't have any blower cores on hand. I do have a ported snout on hand.

The price of that LS3/7 TB is no core required.

Thanks

I do have the tools to press on a new pulley or hub, just incase you get itchy for some more boost.

What you don't like Katech? lol

The stock clutch will be fine for your plans and Vengeance makes the best HX I have seen for the ZR1.
