Any former C6 Z06 owners make the switch to a C6 ZR1?
I have an '09 Z and I don't want to modify it. I have been considering making a switch to a C6 ZR1. Anyone here done this?
I will begin to wade through the threads here in this section to catch up on info, etc.
Anything I need to know about the ZR1 before I begin my (re)search? Which year is best, what to look out for good/bad, etc............

Yep.
Sold my 07Z and purchased a 2010 ZR1 back in July. Never looked back.
I loved the Z- it was impressive- but put simply, it doesn't compare with the ZR1. ZR1 is faster, handles better, brakes better and I like the looks better. Yes, it was also about 33k more expensive.
The ZR1 makes friends everywhere it goes. All types of folks stop to chat...never experienced that with the Z06.
Make sure you research the rotor wobble issue here on the forum. Other than that I'm not aware of any other major issues particular to the ZR1.
Good luck!

Well pretty everybody on here used to owned a Z06 before the ZR1 including myself.
You can't compared those, ZR1 is better in every way expect milleage. i did have to give up 2MPG! So far the ZR1 has been bulletproof even modded, no Valves drama, and with few bolts-on it will outrun pretty much everythings expect highly modified vette. Anyone who will disagree never owned one! I did love my Z06, for the same reasons i love me ZR1 even more! As for years difference 09 doesn't have PTM, which i really dont mind. I have a 09, i track it once a year, and make absolutely no difference on the unless you wanna break the law like crazy!!
Good luck with your search

Yep, sold my 09 Z06 and bought a 10 ZR1...then sold that and bought another 10 ZR1. Bottom line is the ZR1 is so much more refined, nice smooth power/clutch and when you spool up the supercharger it makes you understand why I move up!
Good luck with your search - you will not be disappointed!

Lots of us on here transitioned from the Z to ZR1. I don't recall seeing where anyone had any regrets. As for which year ZR1 is best, they are all bad to the bone! There have been lots of threads comparing the two cars and you'll find that the ZR1 is at a completely different level. IMO, you can't go wrong by making the move.

2009:
*Clutch recall serial #95800667 through 95801069
2010:
*Added Performance Traction Management (PTM) and Launch Control.
*Late in the build year(?) changed to carbon fiber syncros for smoother shifting. (not exactly sure when this took place during the 2010 build, but a thread by a supporting vendor positively verified it here)
2011:
*Changed the seats very slightly by squaring off the headrest.
*Added banana plug and usb inputs in center console under armrest.
2012/13:
*Changed the seats a little more substantially to add more bolstering and alcantara inserts.
*Changed the exhaust system to add two more cats. (4 total)
*Changed trans ratio for slightly better fuel mileage. (+1 mpg)
*Added a performance package (PDE) which includes:
1.Full length racing spoiler (Ron Fellows) painted black no matter the car color
2.Cup wheels and tires
3.Performance transmission ratio which is the same as the original '09-'11 ratio.
I may have left something out but the above covers at least most of the differences.

I went from an 09 Z06 to a ZR1 and my only regret is that I should have went right to the ZR1..I didn't dislike the Z06 but the ZR1 is just so darn brutal right from the factory it's amazing..good luck bud!!

Probably 90% current ZR1 owners on the forum have come from a Z, myself included. If I had a chance to do it again I wouldn't change a thing... (ZR1's are that good!!!)
The best advice to give here is buy the newest year you can afford. Some of the major differences/notables listed below.

I just made the change last month (08 ZO6 - 11 ZR1). Besides the obvious +133HP and more $$$, the ZR1 does everything a little better and with much less effort. Where the ZO6 will twist the tires with a raucous scream, the ZR1 does it with just a snort. Handling is comparable, (though I haven't tracked the ZR1 yet) with the one exception being, you can turn off the race car feel with the ZR1 and enjoy a much more refined ride quality. Both cars are awesome, but if you have taken a long ride in your ZO6, you probably know what I mean about the desire to turn off the race car once in a while.
One more thing I noticed, the ZR1 has a more agressive alignment and seems to get tossed around a little more on uneven pavement and or ruts.

I made the switch from a 2007 ZO6 with the Lingenfelter 630HP package to a 2010 ZR1. To be honest, there is not a lot of difference in the quickness between the two cars, but the ZR1 comes on at a lower RPM where the ZO6 was a little high strung. Fuel mileage is lower in the ZR1 too. However the ZR1 is MUCH better to drive on any kind of long trip. I had headers and B&B fusion exhaust on the ZO6 and it was LOUD, even with the exhaust butterflies closed. I did enjoy the ZO6, but I'm glad I traded for the ZR1.

Does the LS9 have any valve problems? I know one guy had a failure but haven't seen any others. I ask because Richard at WCCH told me the LS9 heads he seen has had the worst wear between the LS7/9. I hope they don't because I'd really like to get a ZR1

^ based on what's been reported on the CF, not nearly to the same extent as the LS7.
But it's an item that will need to be checked at some point...
Here's what I'm aware of...please let me know of any others (incl. the one you've mentioned)
and I'll update this file.
