Default I'm BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

long story short this past May I traded in my 2010 ZR1 for a new Gen V Viper which was the worst car decision i ever made (NaRush put up with my complaining for the last 4 months). The Viper as of today has been in the shop for 51 days and counting and is now in the process of a buy back. Needless to say i took this opportunity to get back in a new ZR1, I picked him up yesterday. Meet Vinnie Duce.

op, can you elaborate a little bit on your issues with the Gen V?
Problems aside, what were your thoughts on both cars? What about SRT's customer service and such?
Been thinking about a Gen V latetly so your experince would be valuable (objectively speaking, I'm sure you're pretty agravated with all those days at the shop on a 6 figure car!)

Kris,

I've been following your thread on VCA. I'm glad you are finally going for the buy back, it's awful the way you have been treated.

I have a 14 Gen 5 ordered that is in trim stage now, hope to get it in the next couple weeks.

I also have a 12 ZR1 and would not trade it, it is a great car but still looking forward to the new snake.

Congrats on the ZR.

I'm sure your new Viper will be great. I am disappointed in the way they handled things but once i was out 30 days in one visit they knew that I'd be going for a buy back. Once the buy back is 100% complete I will say bye on the VCA. You the car is still not ready and today is day 52, 42 of those days are consecutive.

Drivers Window would not stay rolled up. If you rolled it up it automatically rolled back down. Also it was thought that drivers door was misaligned because I was getting paint rub transfer between door edge and door sill. Come to find out drivers door lip was longer than passenger. Check engine light, electronic stability control light, and airbag light were always on. They would reset them but then they would come back on. Worst issue for driving was the car would get stuck in race mode. This controls suspension and race mode honestly works well but is for track only. It is not something you want to ride around town in, your bouncing around like a Honda with cut springs. The exhaust note sounded very European, I prefer a V8 muscle car sound. Very small but annoying issue the trunk lid would pop but be stuck on the latch.
An honest comparison is this, interior and stereo in GTS are a 10, hell a 10.5. Exterior looks and finish on mine were a 10 also. But as far as performance is concerend the braking is weak, dead stop acceleration is slow compared to zr1 and you have to get the car over 4000 rpm's to get real good TQ. My girlfriend said it best, "all show, no go". Front wheel is a 18 which a is honestly to small, 3 series bmws come with a 19 upfront. Even though the car was out of service for so long I did manage to put 5,500 miles on it so I did drive a lot when I had it. Another issue for me is the PCM is locked. Your only mods are going to be what the mopar race PCM (when released) allows which is limited. I'm not going to say don't get one because I got one but with so many (400+) sitting on dealership lots I bet you can get a test drive now, which they didn't allow for me. If you go on the VCA you'll see that many owners are happy and issue free, i'm sure my problems were isolated. I'd still wait for a 2014, because I'm sure those bugs/issues will be worked out by then.

Welcome back. Sounds like your Viper experience was a complete nightmare. Lots of folks complain about poor GM build quality but I guess there's plenty of it to go around. Congrats on the new ZR1. It looks great!

Really surprising, especially with the lack of tq down low from a V10. Maybe you just got spoiled with the insanely instant tq from the ZR1 and it wasn't a fair judgement.

Same with the LS7. As crazy as it sounds, the LS7 feels a little flat below 4,000rpm, but then pulls awesome from 5k-7k. Same deal with the Viper, more flat feeling at lower rpm, but pulls like a raped ape at high rpm right into the rev limiter.

We are all very spoiled with the LS9 and it's very wide swath of power.

Welcome back to the ZR1 fold, kristopherbush.

How do you like the 2012 and + seat compared to 09-11?? I thinking of doing the upgrade but not sure if it worth 2 grands!
