Default ZR1 sheds -79.8lbs with CR-9s

Imagine your ZR1 almost factory stock, with a carbon fiber hood, roof, b-pillar skirts and side rails, with a set of Carbon Revolution CR-9 wheels with Pilot Sport cups (235 fronts and 345 rears) saving 79.8lbs.

Well according to a forum member who wrote to me correcting our OEM ZR1 wheel weights, the chrome wheels, which are slightly heavier than the standard wheels or Sport Cup Wheels, clad with the stock Michelins, he weighed them at weighed 59.4 front and 66.6 rear. That is 118.8lbs of wheels in the front, and 133.2lbs in the rear for a grand total of 252.0 lbs for all four monster wheels.(This may be right on, since our OZ Ultraleggera wheels weigh 52.5lbs front and 60.5lbs rear)

Now for you street sweepers trolling for Vipers and Porsche GT2-RS class cars, imagine your acceleration with a set of wheels and better traction with the PSC tires and one piece carbon fiber wheels by Carbon Revolution at 36.7 fronts each and 49.4lbs rears for a total wheel weight of 172.2lbs. You gain the wider 345s in the rear, and if you want to add 2 more lbs. per wheel, the Viper rubber P355s fit the CR-9 wheels.

Tested at the track by Sue Callaway:

Default 1.3 second faster lap times at Buttonwillow's short track

After meeting with the folks at Carbon Revolution Saturday in California, Halltech is now officially the USA distributor for the new CR-9 Corvette one piece carbon fiber wheels.

I am still in California, but more details will be forthcoming about this exciting new product line, that will lighten the Corvette unsprung weight by as much as 79lbs (depending on the tire size). Sizes are 19" only at this time. Wheel sizes are 8.5X19" fronts and 12X19" rears.

Testing at Buttonwillow Raceway showed a 1.3 second lap time improvement just switching from alum. wheels to the new CR-9s with the exact same Pilot SCs on Porsche GT3 used in the testing.

We have OZ Ultraleggera wheels and Pilots onboard our ULZ700 and will shed over 50 lbs with these wheels.

Halltech will have these wheels onboard our ULZ700 3.9 in May and will have them at many upcoming events.

More details later. Special initial pricing available. email jim@halltechsystems.com for pricing.

Wow! Great results! Any chance of having 9.5 or 10.5 fronts?

Amazing results but how is the durability? These wheels are 15k. For an extra 5k we can get the legendary quality of HRE cf wheels. How do these compare to HRE?

Warranty = Lifetime structural and materials and 2 year finish.

DOT – does not have an approval it is a very old specification that has no teeth. In the U.S. the SAE 2530 test is the wheel standard that all the OEM’s adhere to and we have passed these test as well we added 30% to these loads and passed again.
In Europe they have the TUV which are more difficult test to pass than the U.S. the TUV test for aftermarket we passed and added 30% again and passed.

The last most difficult testing protocol is the European OEM wheel test called the AKR and we passed this test added 30% and passed again I will attached to this email our test results with the PASS stamp.

8 to 10 week delivery. 19" only. 100% Carbon Fiber Wheels. Carbon Fiber Material Explained.
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) is a super strong and lightweight material that is gaining increasing favour with engineers. In tension, for a given weight of material it’s at least 3 times stronger and stiffer than steel, aluminum or titanium. Carbon fibers are basically very thin strands of carbon, much thinner even than a human hair. All the individual fibers are bunched together in what is called carbon fiber tow.

Each tow can have between 2,000 and 50,000 individual fibers in the bunch. This tow material is then woven or stitched together to create different carbon fiber cloth materials. The tow can also be used directly to manufacture certain parts. The step between these dry tow and fabric materials and a finished solid material is the introduction and curing of a resin to turn the carbon fiber into a CFRP.

You will not have to visualize these on a Corvette. Our ULZ700 will sport these wheels in May and be at the Katech Autobahn for viewing and testing by Johnnie O'Connell. Our Z06 is 2817lbs (no fuel) now, and will be 2765lbs with these wheels and Pilot SCs. 660 HP.

Carbon Revolution’s wheels are also tested for lateral impact performance. In this test, a calibrated striker hits the wheel on the spoke face, mimicking how a sliding vehicle would impact a curb. All Carbon Revolution parts exceed the loading requirements of this widely accepted test.

How many aluminum wheels could survive this at 60mph?

Interesting. While I'm sure the weight advantage for acceleration comes in I would think going to a narrow 235 would really effect your braking at the track.
