New Viper vs. ZR1 at Laguna Seca on Motor Trend Now.
To all Vette fans. I was out at the Laguna Seca race track on Tuesday. Met the great guy's of the Motor Trend magazine. Real Pro's !!!! They were there to test the new Viper and the 2013 ZR1. One set a new track record of 1:33.7. I will not divulge the results, but you will find out on Monday the 17th. Full report then. It's on their web site now. I had a chat with Randy Pobst and all the Motor Trend guy's. Excellent analysis from all. Pobst is one fast guy.

Well their power to weight ratio is basically the same. I don't know much about the new Viper's suspension, but the current ZR's is pretty good. And its brakes are stellar.
Ok, I'll bite. I'll guess the ZR outran the new snake (if the ZR had the PDE package).

Probably the Viper, I've owned both...the 2013 ZR1 has the Z06 tranny...5th/6th gears

Posted this in the other thread, but thought I'd share....
I think what most of the internet seems to forget is that the standard Viper isn't the same as a Viper ACR. The ACR is very quick due to the aero enhancements, which clearly this new Viper does not have. I'd expect the previous generation ACR to be quicker than the new Viper.
For this comparison test, I would guess is the ZR1 has this one. If the Viper loses, it would indeed be extremely embarrassing for the SRT crew.
The internet already expects the Viper to win and if it does, then expectations are met, no shocker there. If it loses, it'll be highly disappointing and the internet will be abuzz.
Could you imagine how it would look on the Viper if the last generation Corvette beat the latest and greatest from SRT? It would be an awful way to introduce such a nice car.
The ZR1 which ran a 1:35.8 was on the PS2s. I'm guessing this test will include the Cup Tires. The 2012 Z06 ran a 1:34.4 and was only .73 behind the ACR. A ZR1 can make up the difference on this kind of track.
That would be an amazing parting gift from the ZR1 and C6 platform!

Both are great great rides. Clearly it should be obvious which one I prefer and which one I am rooting for.

I have a 2011 ZR1 and just sold my 09 ACR, both fantastic cars. I sold the ACR to make room for the new Viper, race yellow with black stripes
In my opinion, the ZR1 might win, the new Viper is not out yet in ACR trim and I expect when it does come out it will have a few more ponies as well as some aerodynamic upgrades.
I was fortunate enough to drive the new snake a month or so ago and I love the design as well as a great interior. The 2 I drove were mules and I didn't get them out of 2nd gear but it was impressive non the less.
Here is one of the drivers
Mama bear getting ready for her run
This is about what the new one will look like but in GTS trim.
OK flame suit on...fire away.

Since the Z07 turned at 1:34.4 it would not suprise me if a PDE ZR1 turned a 1:33.7. The Z07 has only turned faster laps than the PDE ZR1 on very tight courses.

I had an 01 GTS and the Vipers are incredible cars. The geometry of the suspention is very well layed out, the turn in is fabulous. The massive torque is linear allowing you to stay in 3-4-5th gear around the whole track.
That gen Viper is currently one of the biggest values in the used car market...if you can take your time and learn to drive it. There's NO electronic helpers... its all driver married to machine. another plus is they are simple cars with low operating costs...
