Default Cam opinions - LXL lobes

Cam gurus I just wanted to get your thoughts on a prospective cam for my Z06.
It is a Comp Cams LXL lobed grind 230°/242° .645"/651" on a 114 lsa. I am looking for a cam that has good driveability, mild lope, excellent midrange and makes 530+ rwhp on Dyno Jet or better yet has enough power to let me trap above 130 mph. Thanks for your opinions.

Seems to me the LXL lobe is really better for positive displacement blower engines, that doesn't mean it wouldn't work in a NA car, just that you could do better. Personally I think the best lobe for NA is the LSG but you can only get that from Geoff at EPS or a shop that is smart enough to have Geoff design their cams for them, like Lethal Racing http://www.lethalracing.com/

The advantage to going to someone like Shawn David at Lethal for the cam instead of directly to Geoff, is Shawn will nail down the perfect tune for you.

Cheers, Paul.

I am running a 231 247 lsr cam with a 115 lsa. it put down these numbers on a 90* day after driving it an hour to the dyno. drives very good and has a nice lope.

LG G7X3 cam or the RR Lethal cam would be perfect for you, atleast in my opinion.

This is what is in my car (LXL lobed design). Call Shawn at Lethal Racing and ask for the Phantom cam. There's a link in my signature where you can see the dyno graph and the numbers. Car drives like stock with a nice lope at idle. I love it.

I have heard a lot of good things about the eps lsg lobes. from my understanding its an endurance lobe that is aggressive but is easy on valvetrain.

Exactly, wont beat the crap out of your valve train like the LSK, it even sounds way nicer/quieter. I've also heard that on a good day the G lobe will improve your sex life

Cheers, Paul.

Nice graph. I would be pleased with numbers and a graph similar to yours.

it drives quite nice with a 9 overlap. it has killer low and midrange tq and it keeps pulling to redline. I would go with this cam again if I were building another set up.

Keep in mind that Geoff is a hell of a tuner as well.

Geoff spec'd one of his grinds for me after I sent him the post port work numbers. He's a great guy to deal with, but keep in mind that he is pretty damn busy and doesn't have time to BS about some of the sillyness you see on these forums.. So if you do call, make sure you know what you want, what your goals and expectations are, and most importantly, be honest with yourself.

I too have spoken with Geoff on several occasions an he recommended the LXL lobes, they are designed for the 1.8 rocker with a soft seat landing.

To the OP I would even consider 226/242 if you are looking for drive ability and better low end torque. That is the spec I am leaning towards, after speaking with Brian Tooley he turned me on to the xtreme rpm LS1 lobe to use on the exhaust, it has less lift with a same soft landing design ( you just don't need that much lift on the exhaust side)

My specs 226/242 LXL/Xtreme rpm .641/.627 116+2

LXL lobes work well. I use them on both sides and as an exhaust lobe in combination with other intake lobes with good results. It all depends on exactly what you are looking to do with the car.

if I were doing my build all over again. I would use my same cam but use lsl lobes on the intake and the lxl lobe on the exhaust. the lxl is a slightly less aggressive lobe and will work well on the exhaust side.

That is pretty much my blower cam. 230/242 LXL LXL but on a 116+3 LSA. Can't comment on the n/a part since I have a blower, but it drives great and idles nicely.

These are all informative comments. I like that I hear a lot of you saying it makes for a good blower cam as well as a naturally aspirated cam. Never know when a Procharger may accidentally slip into the engine bay.

LS7's like the wide split on N/A so that's why guys say they are similar to what a blower cam would be on a LS2/3. Blower cams usually have little or no overlap.
