Default HELP!! Can someone explain/descript me the "MARBLE IN A CAN" noise?

Sorry for starting a new post for this issue. After closely examining the noise again and again, I think I am experiencing the "marble in a can" sydrome.

My car is making this FAINT noise between 900-1500 rpm under load and ONLY in this rpm range.

The best I can do to descript the noise is as:

Rattle snake
Cricket
metallic rubbing noise
Continuous squeak

Is this the famous "marble in a can" noise that all c5/c6 have?

It happens mostly in stop sign situation, when i deaccerate and accelerate again in 2nd gear. Also happens in other gears at low RPM. Barely happens at 1st gear lauch (i usally use ~1200 rpm lauch). If I accelerate very very gentlely, it become even fainter.

There is no such noise at idle.

The cold winter? It's around 41F here....

It's perfectly normal, most Vettes have this same noise. Nothing to worry about.

I don't think it's the car the cat, does not smell funny.

If it's the tensioner, would it also make this sound when revving in neutral? There is no noise in neutral.

I've never own a vette before this zr1 so I don't know the characteristic noise of vettes.

Then I wouldn't be concerned in the slightest.

Normal. Its the flywheel rattling. Start keeping the rpms a bit higher and you won't hear it. The bad supercharger coupler will be heard at idle.

haha, Thanks. My GT-R had its share of noises (gear whine/tick, noisy brake). Guess I'll have to get used to another set of noise now.

I haven't had marbles in the can since my 01Z which was infamously due to the clutch throwout bearing.

I mean with the the a/c, radio and exhaust valve open, I can hardly hear it. Plus I have very good hearing, which doesn't help in this case.

I had the same noise a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a bad left cat. Dealer replaced both cats and the noise is gone.

I don't think it's the cat. There is NO noise at idle OR rev in neutral , only underload. Doesn't smell bad neither.

Any other sign when it's a bad cat?

all T56 and T6060 do this sound... no matter what kind of clutch you have. My 06 gto did it, my 05 vette, my 08z06 and my zr1 all had/have some of that rattle... friends with 4th gen f-body did it too back in the days...

Completely normal sound, if only slightly annoying. My '01 C5, '08 LS3, and now my '10 ZR1 all had/have this noise. Nothing to be concerned about at all.

So, how are you liking the ZR1??

Consensus here over the past couple of years is that it is normal. I wouldn't worry about it. Just enjoy that bad boy.
