Stock ZR1 VS 2013 Shelby 662 H.P
I have owned corvette's for the past 26 years and after reading all about the new 2013 shelby i bought one. I think that ford has come out with a super car and GM is in trouble in many ways! ( motors ticking ect.) I still own GM vehicles but with this 662 H.P BEAST i had to give it try. What do you think of the 2013 shelby vs the ZR1 stock to stock? I also have a brand new GMC Z71 P/U and the motor ticks for 3 to 5 minutes on start up from day one. What is going on with all of these engine problems? Also own a 1970 chevrolet LS6 with 2,500 miles on the that runs perfect!

Shelby is cool for straight line, but that's about it. ZR1 is in a totally different class of car and really shouldn't be compared to the Shelby. ZR1 can do it all performance wise.

I agree to a point. But when you are on the highway and these two cars are together it's game on! Not pull over to find a road track and agian i am a corvette lover from day one and have also owned a new viper and i hated it! I just think that the ford 2013 shelby has really stepped it up this year and the price is right for the amount of performance that you get out of it. My friend has a 2009 ZR1 and i can't wait to run him even if i have tune the shelby. It will be interesting. Another reason for the shelby is that it has four seats and i do have a 5 year old that loves cars.

Man, don't want to bag your car as its a lot of engine for the coin and the back seat is good to have, but it just doesn't make a lot of sense to compare it to a ZR1. Two very different cars. Equal drivers the ZR1 has the edge in acceleration too, but its close enough that you have a chance against your buddy with the '09 ZR1 especially if you can drive.

Clearly most of us will prefer the ZR1. Having a new Mustang GT 500 has got to be a fresh experience with a great car. I'd like to have one; but, not more than my ZR1. It's not a bad car and it may fit your personality better than a ZR1. Owning it may provide you with all the fun you can ever need and an extra $40k to boot. It could be similar to owning a ZR1 and keeping $160k instead of buying a F458. As for "all these engine problems", I have yet to experience any of them. Enjoy and post some pics, I won't mind.

Your friends '09 ZR1 had an engine replaced? Really? That would be the second stock LS9 failure I've ever heard. Details please.
I'm 35 and have owned 7 Chevy smallblocks with zero issues. Oh, my '01 2500HD truck with the 6.0 Vortec did have a little piston slap on cold start but it wasn't a big deal.
I'd take an LSx block over pretty much all the Ford engines personally.

Be sure if you get a tune it is from John Lund, his tunes are great for Shelby's. Congrats on your new ride, i cannot wait until you run a Zr1 with some bolt-on on your Shelby.

I can afford to own a new ZR1 or a new F458 but again i have a 5 year old daughter that loves cars so right now the 2 seaters will not work. I love covette's and i think the next best car that can hang in a straight line is the shelby period. With a Pully ,Tune Air filter i think that the ZR1 is in some trouble.
Look I respect the GT500 but a car thats absurdly heavier than the ZR1 and has only 24 more hp crank is nothing to fear. We pack more tire and will out 60' foot you all day long.
Leh door is thataways ford fanboy.

Yeah against a stock ZR1. Throw equal mods on a ZR1 and its oh chuckles at Miss Shelby after that.

60K vs 126k think about it. My friend had one of the fist 2001 lingenfelter twin turbo packages that a 1000 H.P at the rear wheels and he told me that with a livernois tune and pully the ZR1 is in BIG TROUBLE staight line. He also owns a Livernios shelby that make over 1000 rear wheel H.P I think that knows what he is talking about and has been racing the fastest street cars for a number years!
