Default C/D Lightning lap 6 winner=ZR1

Just got my issue and read the article, and the ZR1 is impressive again!
Congrats ZR1 again, the car is just awesome!!!
I will post a link to the article when its available!

In the words of the C/D writer......The only 3 cars to beat it in six years of testing are the "3 track day specials"....2 Moslers and the Viper ACR

Im sure the debate will start now!!!!

I was very surprised to see the cup tires were only 1.1 sec. faster than the PS2's that were used on the previous car?

I was a little dissapointed at that time also but we really have no idea what the track conditions differences between the runs were or the driver differences. I think C&D has a group of drivers who test the cars instead of one single driver.

You are correct and they had 2 of 3 days of rain so not much practice in each car, 1 true day of real laps isn't much to extract the most out of a car that they in their own words were a little scared of it.

Kyle, isn't that two years in a row? Didn't the ZR1 win it last year as well?

I'm pretty sure it beat the Lambo by like 3 tenths. I'll try to find last years issue and confirm one way or the other.

According to the ticker tape at the bottom of the page they both ran 2:51.08 but the ZR1 was in 2010 and the little lambo ran 2011. The ZR1 did beat the Murci in 2010

Last year the ZR1 did not run. A Z06 w/ Z07 package turned a 2:53.5 and came in 3rd behind the Lambo (2:51.8) and Mosler (2:49.8).

I think it's quite clear at this point that it would take the Aventador to beat the ZR1 on sport cups for less than $500k. That is pretty astounding there is NO other factory production stock car that can do it for under half a million besides the Aventador. I would think the GT2RS, GT3 4.0, 458, and the highest performing Gallardo model would be 'close', but still behind.

Amazing.

My 1st track day is spring mountain the first weekend in February then back to VIR Feb 25 with BMWCCA. This will be my 1st time with the Cup tires...can't wait!

I was already lapping BMW's with the PS2's

I think the PS2's on my 2010 are awesome! I can drive to my local track, (50 mi.) run all day and drive home! I do want another set of wheels & tires for track only so I don't chew up my street tires! After 1 track day the car does wonder around a lot more than it did. I'll stay away from the cup tire for now! They just don't last!

Given that the standard 458 was recently crushed by a Z06 in a Motor Trend track test I think pitting one against a ZR1 would be bringing the proverbial knife to a gunfight.

Only four cars now stand between the ZR1 and absolute documented dominance - The Aventador, 599 GTO/458 Scuderia, McLaren MP4-12C and the GT2 RS. If those four fall then for stock, street legal sports/supercars the ZR1 will be truly the King of the Hill.

Should this come to pass, given the towering sticker prices of the would be challengers I would agree that the operative word would be astounding. Speed costs money. It seems that all the cars the three main Corvette models (Grand Sport, ZO6/7 and ZR1) currently stand atop have a lot to answer for.

BTW, here's a CD summary of their Lightning Lap times.
