The part number change is because the rotor hat is now drilled to accept balancing weights.
Mind you that GM nor anyone else I talked to is able to find a part number or even a way to get those "weights".
That said, the new rotors will fit all ZR1. My new one came with the holes, but no weights, and still vibrated to some extent (granted, a 90% improvement over the stockers), but it still saddens me that our 130k miles 04 Silverado with 31" BFG's is shake free but my $113k can be shaking at times...
I haven't persued anything else, but at some point I will have a private shop do another RF

People that have the issue does it happen over 70-80 mph range? Like anyone had issues with it in the 1/4 mile or 1/2 mile events? Would hate to have something like that happen at 120-150mph

My cars only did it in the listed ranges (approx 73-85 mph). Considerably higher than that never had a problem.

82-84 for me but you have to understand this: other than the steering wheel pulsating, if you take your hands off it, you'd never know there is an issue... Car handles fine regardless.

Mine only did it in the 75-82 mph range. No problems at the track or handling. New front rotors seem to have fixed the problem.

All,

I have noticed more vibration on the steering wheel this morning and my local Chevy dealer refuse to change rotors on my car. I live in Torrance, CA. Are there any dependable dealers who can swap the rotors for me?

Thanks

The '10 ZR1 I test drove a few years ago had the vibration, but my '12 does not have the vibration at any speed.

Does yours vibrate at all speeds or just in the range of about 73-85 mph?

Yep, you have the rotor issue then.

If it was at all speeds it may have pointed to flat spotted tires, bent rim, etc.

Read this thread carefully and maybe try a different dealer since you said that your local dealer has already refused to help you. You may still ask him to follow the usual warranty steps first like road force balancing the tires, & checking the wheel alignment. Most dealers will want to follow those steps first before going straight to replacing the rotors. My dealer (which is awesome) said he needed to show he went thru those steps first to get reimbursed for the high dollar rotors.

In the end, you'll find rotors will be the ultimate cause of this problem, it's no secret by now.

Good Luck!

Is your dealer aware/informed of the problem and denying you help, or is he ignorant. If the latter he may think your front end is out of alignment - you might print out one of these threads, especially one that shows where the fix is replacement and where GM authorized replacements.

If it's the former, find a new dealer. Amazing.

I spent my money to align the front wheels and road force balancing but vibration is still there. I will try Winn Chevrolet in Carson tomorrow.

Thank you all!

I have a 2010 Grand Sport and have been have steering vibration issues since I purchased it 7 weeks ago. Car has 15,000 miles. I have had the tires balanced 11 times, replaced the tires 3 times, replaced the factory wheels twice and have had the car aligned 6 times. I also replaced the front brake rotors last week. I still have a vibration at 70 mph. I am at my whits end!!!

I just bought a dial gage with a magnetic mount. I am going to measure the runout of both the rotors and wheel hub.

Can you post a photo of this rotor with the holes? I'd like to have a look see. Maybe I can have my machine shop buddy put holes in mine and then balance them with some kind of weight. But I need to see what these new type rotors look like.

If I can balance the rotor rather than balance the wheel to compensate, that'd be preferable. Last time I had new tires installed, I had to go into a long explanation at the tire shop as to why I wanted them to balance the front with a weight already applied to the wheel.

Just changed the standard OEM 20 spoke rims with pilot sport 2's (that were RF balanced by dealer when I first had the vibrations last summer--which actuualy worked!) to my track rims--cup tires and rims that were RF balanced by florida speed shop--and the 75-80 vibration is back--and WORSE than before

I hope they can fix it with the tire re-balance, but with all the issues I have read about I am not feeling real good about this being any kind of a simple fix. Hopefully if they can't solve the issue tomorrow a new set of wheels will. Keeping my fingers crossed! Wish me luck.
why would you trade in an '09 for a '10? Are there differences?
